I was “locked-on” 55-60% of the time for the individual throttle/joystick portions, and ~30% locked on for the combo on the ASTB test prep app.

I really didn’t like the feel of the Jantzen sim: the throttle doesn’t work quite right
 
Math, Reading, and Mechanical (OAR) influences ASTB scores.

If your OAR is high already (55+), focus on ASTB portions (ANIT, UAV, and Terrain).
Familiarize yourself with parts of aircraft and basic Navy terminology for the ANIT.
For the UAV portion, try for at least 90%, average 2 seconds. There's a method you can find on YouTube that makes this significantly easier.
For Terrain, aim for at least 90% accuracy (time doesn’t matter). You can get this with the "compass trick".

I was able to practice everything from the ASTB test prep app; in fact it was my main resource, and I would say it had the greatest effect on improving my scores from a 64/7/6/5 to the 69/9/9/9.
 
If you are able to, get a thrustmaster or X52 joystick and practice the ASTB test prep app simulator. I never improved to the point that many others have gotten to, but a familiarization with the controls I think goes a really long way.
