Officer Candidate School (OCS):
Upon arrival, check in wearing appropriate civilian attire. Check-in for OCS is on Sunday, and you must arrive before 0900. Ask the gate guard for directions to OCS, and follow signs for OCS Arrivals, which will lead you to Callaghan Hall. Designated parking will be provided.”

Have you sent your application to the board yet? Or are you waiting on orders for OCS

Yea I mean I’m less than 3 weeks out and Am taking my PRT this Thursday. The folks in the 08March class that left today, received their orders a week ago. It’s just incredibly last minute and that goes for orders, swearing in, and flight information.

Talk to your recruiter and see if there’s anything that can be done to move your process along b it other than that….welcome to the US military. A lot of hurry up and wait.

From what I’ve heard around the water coolers here, orders issuance during the last two weeks before a candidate’s ship date to OCS is a pretty common experience, and is something you’ll want to plan for. Just be honest with your employer/ landlord about the shipping timeline you’ve received, and be clear that the timeframe between your expected receipt of orders and your departure date for OCS is going to be extremely short.

Make it clear to your employer/ landlord that you’re coming to them now to do them the courtesy of maximizing their time to prepare for your departure, but beyond that it’s out of your hands. Communicate everything over email/writing so there’s a paper trail, but if your employer and landlord want to sit on their hands until you finally have orders, jolly good for them - but you’ll be gone by the time your orders tell you to be gone.

You can also reach out to your recruiter and see if he/she can send you a copy of your OCS Acceptance Letter to NRC (which you should have signed a while back for your designator). It’s no substitute for orders, but might be enough to impress upon your employer/ landlord that this train IS pulling into the station (so they’d better start preparing), and you’re not just spinning a yarn to get out of a lease on a whim.

My work will fire me over this i m really leaving them in a lurch. Im just worried my recruiter delays my ship date they could then make something up for cause. It s incredibly unprofessional what the navy s doing here

Not a lawyer here, obviously, but I’m pretty certain firing/ retaliation against an employee purely because they’re entering active duty military service is a fantastic way for your employer to catch a broadside salvo to the face from the Department of Labor for violating the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA). You can be laid off from your position for other reasons - poor performance, misconduct, etc. - but not because you intend to join the military.

If they’re dumb enough to want that smoke, do the rest of the U.S. workforce a solid and file a USERRA violation complaint against them with the DoL-VETS office.
