    Naval Aviations "One" Problem...

I've heard good things about El Toro and Tustin. Never been, but I'm sure they're better than New River. Just waiting for an advertisement from a TV lawyer to collect on a class-action settlement due to the water supply.😆

    Naval Aviations "One" Problem...

I'm not sure who the Marine general was that snookered the Navy into abandoning Miramar in the 90's, but I thank him. Glad I was never stationed at MCAS El Centro. Jokes aside, it seems like the DoD/Congress as a whole needs to step up its game on base infrastructure. Never been to Lemoore...

The Great, Constantly Changing Picture Gallery, Troisième partie: la vengeance!

クソ缶詰 From what I understand, thie placement of roundels is the origin of the term "shitcanned". Can't be certain of that though. 😁

Looks like the Japanese are more tactical where they place roundels though...😆

Yeah, that seems messed up. I'm not that familiar with the reserve side of things though.

Stupid Questions about Naval Aviation (Part 3)

That's probably similar to how we viewed the Pendleton training areas during HLL (more so when the phrog and H-1 FRS's were both at NFG). Let's go head to LZ Bull, then get some pizza on the way back. 😆

Stupid Questions about Naval Aviation (Part 3)

When I was there, IIRC it was primarily RW/TR that used the octagon. I don't recall FW using it much, or at all.

    I'll give it a look. Thx @Griz882

    Haiti

Are there any Caribbean FAO/RAO's on here that can explain why Haiti is a perennial hellscape, yet on the same island the DR seems to be relatively stable? The answer probably informs why there are no Haitian MLB stars, but the DR has plenty. Just curious.

The Great, Constantly Changing Picture Gallery, Troisième partie: la vengeance!

I truly don't know where the cockpit starts and ends from this pic. The blades do seem coned up, which means they have no more liftt to give. As @hlg6016 notes, would have liked to see more cranial usage there on the deck.. 😃

As a former monitor/detailer, it really didn't. I believe the green side did a better job (could be wrong), but we all know what we signed up for...after your initial obligation, you've got options. Ultimately, the needs of the service wins out (Hopefully your wishlist and the service's reqs...

    Europe under extreme duress

This is PR. 2 or 4 -60's doesn't matter. They need shells. More than that, they need western democracies to not be a bunch of pussies. I'll leave it at that. Edit: I'll add that if the US abandons UKR support, it will be a stain on our country and will have repercussions for many years to...

Yes, and that worked out well for the Germans. What is your obsession with this topic?
  15. JTS11

    Europe under extreme duress

Yep, even if this hypothetical plays out to the helo landing in a 'hot' LZ, the dudes aren't shooting at the back of the engine. The fire is going into the cockpit and cabin. I'll make a few assumptions. That -60 that was crowd-funded and was delivered with that livery, it was a good PR win...

If you're dissatisfied with the "Uniparty", maybe look into the great plans of RFK Jr or Cornell West, and write them in? Or don't vote?

    Europe under extreme duress

The only thing I can relate to on my end was the different ASE mods over the years. The ultimate ASE system that had to be trick-fucked was the ALE-39 (70's Tech) dispenser pods, before it was upgraded, along with other systems.

    Europe under extreme duress

I do remember some of my peers who flew Whiskeys talking of the front seat experience of shooting actual approaches back to NFG (head cocked off to the side looking at a small meatball). Don't know if that's accurate or not. Also, like you mentioned bc of all the mods, that shooting certain...

    Naval Aviations "One" Problem...

All jokes aside, the first squadron I was in, the Maint Chief was a black dude with a Jamaican/British accent who got shit done. I remember him working all the GSE when required. We get orders to deploy, and he's working GSE to get blades changed, and so forth... He also looked at me like I...

Alaska Airlines 737 MAX 9 Decompression

I'm not trying to be obtuse (and maybe reading the reports wrong, and misinterpreting the video of the system posted earlier have led me there), but I still don't understand why the switch on the back of the seat can push it fwd enough to cause that situation. I thought that switch was only...

    Naval Aviations "One" Problem...

To add on, the good Sergeants Major I was around embraced being in the Air Wing. Got a flight suit and/or coveralls and got on AO orders (as long as not preventing anyone else getting "on skins") to get to know their Marines. The other ones sat in their office upstairs planning their...

    Naval Aviations "One" Problem...

No worries, you may be right. From a USMC perspective (speaking at a squadron level), the E-9' Sergeants Major were a somewhat mixed bag. A lot, or some, had infantry backgrounds and didn't understand how the air wing worked. Some adapted, some didn't.
  30. JTS11

    Naval Aviations "One" Problem...

Not sure if this is a policy panacea. I'm indifferent to their E-9 status giving them unique policy insight.

Alaska Airlines 737 MAX 9 Decompression

Just go old school and make it mechanical and lock where you want the seat to be into position. Don't let the help smush you into the controls via a loose switch. Seems simple to me. Also, why would those back-of-the seat switches need access in flight (with a flimsy plastic cover)? I'm sure...

Alaska Airlines 737 MAX 9 Decompression

I guess the counter would be, why is there a switch on the back of the seat that could push a seat/ pilot into the yoke to cause something like this. A loose switch? https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/2024/03/15/latam-dreamliner-dive-boeing-switch/ It's a potentially problematic system...

I ask bc as a kid my grandpa retired from the RR as a heavy equipment operator (SeaBee during WWII as a teen) , and I remember going with him to the small town midwest depot as a kid. So, I've always had a fascination with the RRs. Fast forward to living in downtown SD in an apt by the tracks...

Alaska Airlines 737 MAX 9 Decompression

I've always wondered what the hiring process was for rail engineers. Are they internal hires after gaining requisite experience? Probably more analogous to a merchant marine captain, than an airline pilot in my mind? Maybe I'm way off... I think I had read something of them doing crew swaps...

That is probably what happened to me on my last ever interaction with DTS. In summary I go on a 2 week TAD trip for Marine Week as OpsO just prior to going pre-retirement leave. I'm with you there. Honestly, I don't want or need a lot of this stuff...not on my car, refrigerator, etc. Just a solid mechanical device that does the job. I soured on a lot of this shit with TPMS, and the cost to get them replaced every few years. I'll just check my own tire pressure...TYVM.

Stupid Questions about Naval Aviation (Part 3)

I don't necessarily want to spark a debate on this subject, but who the fuck thought writing this article was a good idea? It could have been written 25 to 30 years ago. Paraphrasing, but the author mentions something to the effect of "and with tanker support the range is unlimited". Wow...

Stupid Questions about Naval Aviation (Part 3)

That Imperial ban happened in the mid-aughts as well. It was shortly lived though; either through the squadrons' cries of lost training time, or more likely, the FBO owner reaching out to his congressman 😄. I've always wondered if the farmers who owned the fields south of El Centro ever...

Stupid Questions about Naval Aviation (Part 3)

All your points are solid, in general, and WRT the specifics of SOCAL helo ops. The one hedge from an ops perspective we did was to plan a fuel hit at Imperial County (two boxes of Papa Johns) at around 2300, so at least you had the fuel to go missed at NKX and head east to El Centro if you...

Stupid Questions about Naval Aviation (Part 3)

Good lord..knowing what I know now, I'd have figured out a way to get that dude shit-canned. 😐 As far as Miramar went, (when there was a marine layer) all the cats and dogs were lining up around the same time to get an IFR pickup before the field closed (midnight or 1 AM IIRC). You'd try to...
