They might as well get room service, they get their own rooms. BTW Crowbar, nice job on working that quote in. "You pull any of that s*** with me, flash your piece out while we're on line, I'll take from you, stick it up your a** and pull the trigger 'til it goes click." "Jesus!" "You said...

    Hunting & Fishing

I love handling up on varmints. I've got a lease out in West, TX that's a blast to varmint hunt. Sometimes I explode the coyotes and raccoons with a .264 winmag, and other times I prefer to make them do backflips with a .22-250. Time to grab a spotlight!

    Hunting & Fishing

I don't know, I found it fairly difficult to hunt while I was on active duty. It's not like being home and having land to hunt or fish on. I was stationed in San Diego, so it wasn't hard to go fishing. You can fish the local lakes, the base, hell- people fished off the fantail of the ship...

    Initial issue

I recieved the Bates jungles this summer. They sucked, just like you describe them. They had a knack for rubbing holes in the backside of your heels and were stiff as a board. We had to do the SgtMaj post and relief in them and I now hate them more than anything. I'll have to look into the...

    Initial issue

They look the same, but a lot of people believe they feel quite different. There's a very distinct difference between my jungles and ICB's. I'd love it if my new jungle boots were as comfortable as the ICB's.

    OCS quotes

We were studying for a test while sitting on line. Anyhow the Sgt Inst. was bored and stepped out into the squad bay to jack with us. He noticed that one of the kevlars wasn't hung properly on the rack. We had to study the rest of the time with our kevlars on. I know it sounds stupid, but it...

    Initial issue

I should have been a little more clear when I mentioned the drying time on the new boots. I was comparing them to the old jungles. I felt like the jungle boots dried quicker than the new ones, and that's what we usually wore on a daily basis at OCS. In '03, OCS switched to the new boots and...
  13. FrogFly

    Initial issue

The new boots kinda suck. They're easy to maintain, but take forever to dry. This is important because at OCS you'll appreciate having dry feet. Oh yeah, bring duct tape. It comes in handy for all kinds of stuff, not to mention that you can tape your feet up with it. It really does work for...

joining the Marine Corps flight program

This is just my opinion, but I believe you'd better be doing way better than a 250 to be "comfortable" at OCS. You should be running a 270 or higher at least. Anything above that may help you to be a little more "comfortable". You should only be doing a 250 if you're hung-over, have the flu...

  23. FrogFly

    NROTC questions

I believe that if you want your package to even be competetive, you'll need a 270 or above on the PFT. However, at OCS, you'll have to get under 24 minutes on your inventory PFT to stay and proceed with training. You'll see the CO of OCS if you exhibit unsatisfactory performance on the in-PFT...

Yep, Robert_F, if you've got any specific questions go ahead and ask now. There's a few of us (maybe only a couple) who just got back from OCS this summer. It's pretty fresh on our minds considering we just got back a few weeks ago. I don't know much of anything (from experience) about TBS...

    PLC Graduation

    PLC Graduation

I was in E-4. We were down on the 1st deck, all alone. Our squad bay was on the side where the Jr's PT field was. You must have been next to E-3, they were on the opposite side of our squad bay on the second deck. Thanks for the congrats, and good luck to you at Sr's. You sound pretty...

I was ship's company, working in AIMD. I did all the avionics work (65B), but we didn't get much from VRC-30. VS-38 kept us plenty busy, though so I'm glad ya'll gave us a break. Thanks for all the parts I needed and for delivering all those packages from home. I appreciated that! Ya'll...

Hey Bunk, I was on that deployment in '99 too! Man, I thought we were at war, considering all the ordnance that was in the hangar bay on a daily basis. PLC Graduation

    OCS hints/tricks

You can stay up all damn night if you want to. I've never heard of anyone getting reemed for making a late night head call. OCS hints/tricks

Hint: Don't get all stressed while doing rack-making drills. Those games will go on as long as the SI wants them to. Just relax, and know that this is the easiest hazing that occurs while at OCS. Man, I love rack drills. Two sheets and a blanket on line, now!

    Flight Training for PLC

I thought you had to complete both PLC Jr and PLC Sr to be eligible? Additionally, I was under the impression that you had to commit to accepting your commission before being able to start the program.

    TBS after OCS

Well, I just finished with PLC Sr's this summer, so here go the questions... We had a couple 2nd Lt's tell us about TBS in a "restricted" manner. They seemed to make a lot of "no comment" faces, so our questions weren't fully answered. One of my questions is about physical fitness. I run...

Anybody else feel like they got weaker at OCS?

Everyone seems to suck on upper body workouts toward the end of OCS. This summer we hit the UBD's hard the first week or so, and never did them again afterwards. All I know is that my 20th pull up during the final PFT was much harder than it was during the initial PFT. Run times usually seem...

Well, I'm back now. That last week moved by at a snail's pace, but it was a pleasant one compared to the previous weeks. Whew, I'm glad that's over. I think I might get up tonight to stand an hour or two of firewatch in my apartment if I get bored.

Yeah, that PFT in the rain was a pain in the arse, but I was glad they pushed it up a day early instead of doing on the same day as pick-up. Well, gentlemen, I've just got 2 and 1/2 weeks before finishing up the job in "motivating" Echo Company. SULE II, here I come. Maybe I'll check the site...

    1 June Combined Course Candidates

Once you arive in Quantico you won't leave again until you earn liberty. Also, you won't get a haircut until you get picked up by your staff. Hey, haircuts aren't any fun unless you're getting yelled at while your head is buried in your candidate reg's!

Hmmm, I dunno, what's the practical application for carrying logs while at BUDs?
  46. FrogFly

    How big is everyone

You'll have a strained face while carrying the log if you're tall like me. It's like you're carrying the whole damn thing yourself! If you're 5'8" the log probably won't beat you as bad.

26 Days to Go, What would you be doing??

I talked to a sports medicine doctor and he said Spenco are pretty good. That's what he recommended. I'd bring two, one for your running shoes and another to switch between your jungles and ICB's.

    Confusion about joining Marine Corps

You'd have to get stationed on the East Coast or with a unit that travels with East Coast ships to do a Med - which is unfortunate because it seems like such a better cruise. However, I don't know if I'd trade the West Coast over a deployment experience.
