    Home Defense

Roll 'em over and shoot 'em in the front. . . The story goes: you hit them in the front, they spun around and caught the second shot in the back. Bad luck for him to get hit on both sides, I suppose.

    Major Housing Update

When I checked in back in June, I remember my orders to API being unaccompanied orders. I don't have them handy, but I believe that's how it was set up a year ago.

    NSS Facts

Just out of curiosity, since the T-6 students are only being compared to the other T-6 students (for calculation of NSS), and T-34 students are only being compared to other T-34 students. . .shouldn't the NSS be relatively equitable? I.E. If T-6 student X is in the top Y percent of his T-6...

    Decided on NFO Contract

Maybe, but you'll probably have to answer a few questions as to why you turned down a commission in another service.

    Decided on NFO Contract

True, but you will have taken a slot from someone that really wanted to be an NFO. The right thing (at least in my eyes) is not to accept the contract for something you're not willing to do.

    DUI arrest but not charged

Hal, I'm not saying people don't know their limits. . .but the officer apparently had enough cause to warrant an arrest. Obviously, I wasn't there, and apparently there wasn't enough evidence to pursue a conviction, though that could be for a number of technicalities. I understand what...

    DUI arrest but not charged

To me, that still shows a poor choice. You knew you would be drinking, and you didn't have a plan to get home that didn't involve you driving. Were you drunk? Probably not. . .but was there enough reason for the officer to suspect you might be? Yes. Unfortunately, perception is reality in the...

    sTUPID qUESTIONS aBOUT ocs

I know a lot of people who bought a book, and then passed it around when they were done reading it. I read a couple of books that way. A few books were left at the quarterdeck of Nimitz as well.

    New Initiatives from SECNAV

To add to this. . .I wonder what the cost (financially) will be to train the new person as well as re-train the person after being gone for three years. In an era of tightening budgets, this would be an interesting figure to see.
  14. eas7888

    New Initiatives from SECNAV

Having a kid, I understand the benefit that it provides for the family. The first few years of a child's life are very important developmentally. If a person is in a position to stay home with their kid, and they want to, it could benefit the kid significantly. I understand the flip side of...

There may be periods where you're stuck doing nothing but watching a class for hours as a Candi-O. At that point in time, yes, it could pay dividends to have a phone with internet access. However, you could always go analog, and read a book. There are a ton of books floating around Nimitz that...

Nothing in the Army is designed to make sense. AR670-1 says one thing, the CSM says something else that conflicts with the AR. . .by God, you'd better comply with both or there will be hell to pay. Along those same lines. . .we were told we HAD to wear a specific combat patch on our uniforms...

Any current or recent API Geo Bachelors?

Electronic statements are nice. . .but statements aren't the only correspondence that is sent. I.E. new cards, tax documents, etc. It's still not a bad idea to change your addresses with the people you do business with, it's just a smart move. It only takes about an hour to do. Also, if...

Any current or recent API Geo Bachelors?

Yes, you'll have to go through the headache of changing your address with pretty much everyone you're associated with. You can maintain residency in your home state, but you'll still have to change your address so you can receive the correspondence, bills, etc associated with your accounts. It...

    Plantar Warts

I can't answer your question, but I will say this: It may be something you want to try and take care of before you go. I've had them before, and they can become quite painful if you don't take care of them, especially wearing boots all day long.

  32. eas7888

Can you shave your head at OCS?

On the subject of OCS being harder than boot camp. . .I can't testify to Navy/Marine Corps initial entry training, but on the Army side, the training was much more physically intense. The beatings were as bad/worse than what we had at OCS, and there was significantly more marching around with...

Different Jobs with different gateways to becoming a pilot?

Monk is spot on here. . .while I was in the Army reserve, they offered a program called the Simultaneous Membership Program (click the link for more info). I felt like a dumbass for not doing it while I was in. . .but had I done that, I wouldn't be an Ensign now. :-) Anyway, the program allows...

    Uniforms

That was ONE of my biggest gripes about the switch from the BDU to the ACU on the Army side. Grease and dirt would stand out like a sore thumb on the new uniforms, sometimes ruining a uniform's use in a garrison environment. God forbid someone have grease on a "Combat Uniform" in a garrison...

Mexican Generals; Why so many ribbons?

I don't think it's an Army specific regulation. . .it's specific to the award. For instance, I earned the GWOT-E and the ICM . . . but from two separate deployments. On my first deployment, during the transition phase, I was given the option of selecting either the GWOT-E or the ICM. I chose...

Well, this was the one 'nice' thing about OCS. You don't have to worry about how many uniforms, and of what variety you think you might need. They just make you buy the whole kitchen sink.

Likelihood of being selected to go P3?

I believe he answered your question by saying that there are also single seat variants certian aircraft (F/A-18 C/D or the E/F). To those pilots, a second person in the cockpit might seem redundant, as they can function without that second person. At least this seems to be the point that...

AT-6 excluded from Light Attack Aircraft

Wouldn't the operating costs be significantly lower for the AT-6? I'm not an expert, by any means, it just seems that in the long run, this would be a more cost effective solution than using a platform like the F-15E in the same role.

For prior service, it bumps the age up two years, assuming you spent at least two years on active duty. So, if you're a prior service applicant, you just have to be commissioned by age 29.

New guy here, FLARNG out of Cecil Field

From what I understand, they aren't directly replacing the Blackhawk with the Lakota. It's more of a NG/homeland security asset that is there to augment the rotary assets in the states. This was/is a big issue (though less of one now that we're out of Iraq) since a number of the National...
