My $.02 would be applied math and try to get into some oceanography research at some point. History you can learn about without a degree, just have to do some reading...math you kind of need those classes to motivate you to get through the work, and it's nice to have an instructor explain...

The point is if you're going to make a digital fuel gauge...why not just have a readout of the LBS on board as opposed to a fake steam gauge that is really hard to read?

This happens every couple of months. Let's summarize: Brown shoes - wear them if you are 13xx (That means A-pool) Leather jacket - wear it when you are cold. AWGs - wear them while you can. Brown boots - Do not wear until the fleet. You control your performance, not your shoes.

I've heard this a few times. I figure I don't know what "TACAIR" really is anyway, but I don't think the VAQ dudes like this attitude very much.

NFOs don't really fly aircraft. We manage a/c systems, talk on the radios, and help build the crew's SA. You get to fly a little bit in training, mostly in the T-6, but that's about it. It is fun and rewarding...but not the same kind of fun as being at the controls. NFOs are crew members...

ATIS = "Information Delta", person making observations (and sometimes recording like at KNPA where the altimeter was 30003 today) with duty rwy and notams AWOS = "1 minute weather" (I think I've heard it called this). No information, machine making observations, can be referred to as "numbers"...

It's all good, and I thought comps were pretty fun even without the gadgets. Next two flights are section low-levels with GPS/INS for the first time, so we'll see how they go. If I'm lucky enough to select what I want I'll be up in Whidbey soon and can hopefully check out some of those awesome...
