    Things to do in Pensacola

Hopjacks: 3 dolla holla has cheap alcohol on Thursdays I think. Also, Wednesday night is trivia night, which is a lot of fun. Starts at 9, and you pick your own team name to be as offensive as possible. Most popular team name gets free shots. Examples: I'm not gay, but 5 dollars is 5...

WSJ: Major Hasan and Holy War

BS flags are pretty high. A Western president asking muslims why their faith produces so many jihadists isn't gonna help anything. I've heard that the FBI dropped the ball on this one before, but I'm guessing the details of what they did or didn't do won't be made public to us. If you're...

That's the kind of thing you don't really want to throw out there for anyone to read...probably won't matter too much, but it's not great headwork.

    Does College Major matter?

Don't worry, the dick-slapping that is primary flight training will sort out a lot of these guys. Just keep yours safely tucked away.

    Colleges and Majors

My $.02 would be applied math and try to get into some oceanography research at some point. History you can learn about without a degree, just have to do some reading...math you kind of need those classes to motivate you to get through the work, and it's nice to have an instructor explain...

    No more helo hoist

Meh. Redneck parasailing was kind of fun, but it's like practicing getting in a fight with the ground. Didn't get to do the helo hoist, but it looked pretty fun.

Unfortunately, it seems there were at least a few civilians :( http://www.cnn.com/2009/WORLD/asiapcf/09/04/afghanistan.airstrike/index.html Can't imagine Gen. McChrystal is too happy about this, although hopefully it was mostly Taliban.

T-6B Texan II at Whiting next week?

It did the break at 250+ pretty easily, especially with loosing 700' just prior for NPA course rules. As for cruising speeds, we went to San Diego at FL310 with the the PCL nearly firewall'd and were hitting around 380 TAS with a decent fuel flow if I remember correctly.

T-6B Texan II at Whiting next week?

The point is if you're going to make a digital fuel gauge...why not just have a readout of the LBS on board as opposed to a fake steam gauge that is really hard to read?

Stupid questions about Naval Aviation (Pt 2)

Don't know a lot of details about aero of departures / why some modes would be unrecoverable beyond the general stuff that was mentioned. I DO know that you have to know OCF boldface like it's the names of your wife and children for the following reason: Pulling out @ 5k...:eek:

T-6B Texan II at Whiting next week?

Still not a fan of the inability to safe the seat, although the seat pin seems to be working well in that regard. Also, did they add a TACAN or a TCAS in the B?

    API rumor control

This happens every couple of months. Let's summarize: Brown shoes - wear them if you are 13xx (That means A-pool) Leather jacket - wear it when you are cold. AWGs - wear them while you can. Brown boots - Do not wear until the fleet. You control your performance, not your shoes.

The rolling ball is the hub. Small corrections, and don't go to anything else until it is stable (or moving toward stability). The trick is to get to the point where you can get the rectangles in your peripheral, spend about 65-70% on the ball, and the rest on the vertical thingy. The fourth...

What is it like to be an NFO?

NFOs don't really fly aircraft. We manage a/c systems, talk on the radios, and help build the crew's SA. You get to fly a little bit in training, mostly in the T-6, but that's about it. It is fun and rewarding...but not the same kind of fun as being at the controls. NFOs are crew members...

No information, machine making observations, can be referred to as "numbers"...

    Summary of NFO flight school

It's all good, and I thought comps were pretty fun even without the gadgets. Next two flights are section low-levels with GPS/INS for the first time, so we'll see how they go. Summary of NFO flight school

I'm pretty sure they are training us to be able to do a low-level in the event that GPS satelites are taken out, INS doesn't work or is degraded, and we don't have access to computers (but happen to have the echum printed out and handy). Armada coined the term "trazing" It is good...

New way to memorize your EPs

    IFS/NFO's

I'd say that, in general, you should only study as much as you need to so you don't get burned out. However, anytime you start a new phase / block of training, you don't really know how much you need to study. So, if you're starting out a new part of training, study your @ss off until you feel...

    Question about NFO school

It is comparable to to a water molecule in the stream of water in a hose. You start a certain time, and then things get a little crazy, and at some point you get spewed forth into the fleet. So...kind of like college depending on how your college experience was. But yeah, they generally have...

Current A-Pool/API students? Pathetic...or The Great Mustin Beach O'Club Thread

People's priorities get all messed up because it is easy to fail things without a LOT of studying and preparation. I had one of the new jgs tell me, "We don't have TIME to have a wet down, we're in COMPS!" Ye who are about to start flight school, be warned. Don't ever let Friday evening /...
