The VT's made the OP-T thing worth it. Great flying and lots of it, good people. But the illusion of 0-5 was a disappointing, but not surprising considering the reality of retention and large year groups. If you're terminal, there are a lot worse places to be.

Contract instructor pilots? Believe it. They've taken over the sim world and there's plenty waiting for the flying side of the house to cave under manning pressure. It won't happen tomorrow, but I see it in 5 yrs or so.

Not odd Hack, just different. We'd brief at the VT space with the instructor and stud(s), then brief again with the contract pilot in another space, then one more step brief from the Ops Supe. Studs are harrased during briefing and the level of expectation is high, just like everywhere else...

Back in the day, we were told don't expect to get BAH until you have an approved chit, period. I recall that was the trigger, once the Command approved an eligible sailor for BAH and you could present the rental agreement, you were all set. I think you and the CMC can at least get him BAH...

Transient line is managed by a small team of AB's. The organic Navy aircraft are maintained by L3 and Sikorsky. The AF T-1 maintenance folks just converted to GS from contract. My suspicion is that they are all at least retired E-6's. Most are 7's, 8's,and 9's.
