    Not true.

New MARADMIN- no more rolled sleeves in cammies.

Essentially, he just sent an email to the Chief of Staff stating his intent. Nothing in writing, aside from the email trail from above. A MARADMIN isn't necessary.

The entire Marine Corps. Every single Friday. It's awesome. Just remember, when you (the generic "you") sea lawyer the orders from your higher, you are basically clearing your subordinates hot to sea lawyer your orders. I'm sitting in my bravos as I type this, with heartfelt admiration for...

    SECDEF NOM: Chuck Hagel

Concur. I just hear the "he's a hero, look...he has a Purple Heart" about so many people, when actually it's not evidence of heroism. Everybody who signed on the line to join the military had some level of courage, otherwise they wouldn't have voluntarily joined and exposed themselves to the...

    SECDEF NOM: Chuck Hagel

I'm not saying that he's not a solid pick, in fact, I think he is.....but anybody can get shot. It's not necessarily indication of any great wisdom or prowess.

Marine Jets: The Good, Bad, and Ugly.

You should try MEU CDO while deployed. I suggest the last night of port call in Australia for maximum effect. It's fantastic.

Marine Jets: The Good, Bad, and Ugly.

Exact-a-mundo. Pretty much the most painful waste of time ever, aside from tower ODO (Cherry Point and Miramar only) or Command Duty Officer (on the MEU).

    Good Realtors in Pensacola/Perdido?

Don't use Aquatic Realty in Perdido. I heard that they got flattened during Ike, but in the unlikely event that they are still in business, I wouldn't use them for ANYTHING. It's been 20 years and I'm STILL pissed at them.

Stupid Questions about Naval Aviation (Part 3)

I didn't think anybody actually used that. Go figure. I thought it had something to do with running short of C's that had traps left in them. They had to substitute some D's to get the boat squadrons out. Like I said, I heard about this a few years back and the details escape me. You would...

Stupid Questions about Naval Aviation (Part 3)

That wasn't it. I think it had to do more with aircraft availability. Somebody told me about this a few years ago, but I can't remember the details.

Marine Jets: The Good, Bad, and Ugly.

I think he's talking about tower ODO. I'm sure that RPs still stand AODO at the squadron and GDO at MAG.

Wow. I must've somehow missed another incident.

    OCS vs WOFT?

    1. Close, but not CAS. The FW components are doing CAS procedures, but the rotary wing are not. Additionally, JAAT is aviation centric, vice ground centric. FM 3-04.126 Appendix C, Section 1 states: "C-1. A JAAT operation is a coordinated attack by rotary and FW aircraft, normally...

What bubblehead posted is what their customer service folks told me yesterday. Essentially, that you have to have the card first, then ask for the SCRA to be applied, and then see if you qualify. That seems pretty straightforward. The rep I dealt with specifically said that it only applies to...

    USMC Tailhook drops (Serious Answer?)

How do you think that guys like me, TreeTopFlyer, Jarhead, and a crap ton of others wound up flying jets for the Marine Corps? Correspondence school? To bluntly answer your question: yes, Marines get jets. Generally every week at least one guy gets them. Sometimes more, sometimes none. It...

    OCS vs WOFT?

That sounds like an Air Force issue, vice a fixed wing issue. I've seen the same thing myself. I'm certainly not looking down my nose at Army aviation. It's just that if you want to be included in the CAS role, you're going to have to learn to do it to the accepted standard and according to...
  26. Harrier Dude

    OCS vs WOFT?

That is classic Army aviation doctrine. Nothing at all wrong with that, provided you recognize it for what it is. You are using aviation as a supporting maneuver element rather than a part of combined arms. The AH-64 is a phenomenal fires platform. It works for you, so rock on. But it ain't CAS.
  27. Harrier Dude

    OCS vs WOFT?

I was in the stack with them. They rolled in 180 out of their assigned FAH, called "In HOT", and then dropped. I didn't see their hits, but the next thing heard on TAD was "Get OUT". The S-3 asked for a reattack. Again, "Get OUT". From what my S-3 buds told me, they don't get to do CAS...
  28. Harrier Dude

    OCS vs WOFT?

A "500-700 foot CEP" would be an outlandish embarrassment to anybody who even occasionally drops bombs. Even the S-3 guys did better than that. I'd bet that the USAF F-4 types were doing less than 250' CEP even way back in the 70s. Today's aircraft can drop dumb bombs within a 100' CEP without...
  29. Harrier Dude

    OCS vs WOFT?

I'm not in the Air Force, but any of their fighters that are/were capable of carrying GP bombs was capable of dropping them accurately enough to perform CAS with them. That obviously includes USN and USMC jets as well. Just out of curiosity, what do you consider "accurate enough"?
  30. Harrier Dude

Marine Jets: The Good, Bad, and Ugly.

I've been out of the qual loop in the Harrier for awhile, but essentially there are X number of T&R codes that must be completed before a pilot can get a qual. Some of them are very poorly thought out, irrelevant to current requirements, and do not allow sufficient intervention by leadership to...

Marine Jets: The Good, Bad, and Ugly.

I used to be the Division SORTS officer. A "huge abortion of a mess" would be a quantum leap forward. You're looking at it from a larger perspective I think in terms of unit readiness. I'm thinking about the T&R on a smaller, more individual level. It has grown too complicated and unwieldy in...

Marine Jets: The Good, Bad, and Ugly.
