    AMCM a la MH-53E vs OAMCM a la MH-60S

I would tend to agree, except we have a platform that already does that job (53's). Plus, I've heard how it significantly degrades the life of dynamic parts on the 60S when doing the OAMCM mission.

    Public Storage for Military?

The JTFR has provisions for non-temporary storage. There are some restrictions on it but that may suit your needs. I believe it wouldn't last for the duration of a set of orders though, unless you were transferring somewhere overseas...

Heavy Metal (of the rotary kind)

Just goes to show the essence of timing. I think there was 1 slot over the span of two months around my winging time.

Private pilot license with military hours?

It's always an interesting phase of flight when I refresh or get a new checkout in a whatever-plane and do a Navy style approach from the 180 for landing. At this point it's what's most comfortable for me so that's why I do it. The guy I flew with out in San Diego only said "damn Navy pilots"...

Heavy Metal (of the rotary kind)

When I went through, selecting 53's could be tough. Even if you did want it didn't mean you'd get a slot, and the slots that did come up were pretty competitive.

    Light Sport Aircraft

I'll put a safety plug in here. AOPA published an interesting report about LSA's and mishaps. According to the report, the aircraft themselves are very reliable and safe, the majority of the mishaps are from guys who fly heavier aircraft (which included the basic Cessna, etc), and they try and...

Private pilot license with military hours?

I would question that loophole since you have to have a requisite number of hours (as determined by the instructor) in model to get the endorsement. That means a stud training in a Piper can't solo a Cessna, etc. Also, if you don't have any prior certificates (PPL, etc) then you can't use...

Private pilot license with military hours?

You can't use just the primary hours for a private license. Wait till you're winged and you'll get pretty much everything. Search for Mil Comp.

    NROTC commitment now 5 years

How so? I remember there was that initial entry payment required (several thousand or you took out a loan), plus we had to pay for all our books, uniforms, supplies. I was under the impression that those things were all paid for ROTC guys?

Done quite a bit of work with the PJ's lately, those guys are pretty amazing operators. +1 on the article.

    Three Gun / USPSA

That's kinda the concern I've gathered from reading the interwebs. The shooting looks like it could be a ton of fun but if dealing with douchenozzels it required, I'll just stick to knocking down steel plates on my own. That said, I may still try and find one just to witness it first hand.
  15. insanebikerboy

    Three Gun / USPSA

Anyone shooting these? Buying my AR lower got me interested in shooting these type matches, especially since I have the other two requisite guns needed. If you have, what did you like/dislike, and how competitive are they? Any matches around the Jax area, I'd like to at least go check one out...

    M 16 and M4 Civilian Variants

Just keep trying. I called over the course of two days to get ahold of them, not because they have poor customer service but because they are so slammed. When I went down they were saying that with this sell on the lowers going on, it's probably the busiest they've ever been.

    M 16 and M4 Civilian Variants

Yeah, I've seen it in person and if I hadn't bought two already I would've gotten one of those as well. It's a sharp looking lower.

    M 16 and M4 Civilian Variants

Yeah, the fella that does the artwork did some great stuff for the wings. Also, they can apparently engrave that logo on anything they have, as long as it's parkerized (no stainless, obviously). I think the next time I'm in the Orlando area I may have them engrave my knife I carry on my vest :D

    M 16 and M4 Civilian Variants

My New Spike's Lower Went and picked it up yesterday. These guys are a class act, top notch group. The lower is very high quality, finish is superb and the engraving they did on the wings is pretty much perfect. Now, since this is my first AR, I just gotta figure out what I'm gonna do to it...

    Gun Laws in your state

Well, that's the way I read the article too, which I think is only appropriate. It's be interesting to hear rare's opinion.

    Gun Laws in your state

I'm curious your thoughts on the comment in the article about non-licensee's being able to have firearms in their cars, and if they don't mention it but yet are found out, no punishment. Yet, a CHL doesn't mention it and it's found, a ticket? That doesn't seem logical.

    Army M4 vs. Marine M16A4

You know, sight alignment and smooth trigger pull are probably #1 and #2, but understanding (and using) natural point of aim is what took my shooting to the next level.

    Marine Memorial Ceremony?

My aunt is the director of a veteran's memorial and she just emailed me asking about a Marine specific ceremony. She said that she has the Marine drill manual regarding funerals but she's looking for something for a memorial. She was in the Army for several years and was in a drill unit so she...

    M 16 and M4 Civilian Variants

Just ordered two over the phone, benefit of living in Jax is I can drive down and pick them up without having to do an ffl transfer or fee, and they'll be ready next week!!! :D Anyways, I am having a set of pilot wings engraved on the side. It's a custom job so there was an initial set up fee...

    Is 17 kids enough?

While I can't find anything specifically from TLC's website, what I can find through Google is that they apparently get $50,000 per episode and that they went looking for a network to film them. Kind of puts a different spin on the why and how of the show.

    Homestead Exemption in Florida

That's what I was thinking about residency. For all intents and purposes my current home state is the exact same as Florida with regard to taxes, gun laws, etc. And an oh by the way, the homestead exemption is actually $50,000 now.

    Homestead Exemption in Florida

So I just recently bought a house here in Fleming Island and today I got the paperwork from the tax man for the homestead exemption. What I'm wondering and hope maybe someone was in my same position, do I have to change my state of legal residence to Florida to be able to claim that come...

    Army M4 vs. Marine M16A4

Yes, I totally agree, but the fundamentals of accuracy are all the same regardless of where you're shooting. I'm not a Marine but what I take from their marksmanship training is that they place a very heavy emphasis on those fundamentals for every rifleman. Plus, the Marines don't have the...

    FAA Military Equivalency Test

I'm curious, was there a recent change in the FAR's for that? Considering they issued me my fixed wing instrument a couple of years ago, I would think there would need to be an actual law change instead of just at the whim of the examiner.

Return of Turboprops to CAS role?

With all that crap hanging off the wings, I wonder how fast/maneuverable it'd be?
  34. insanebikerboy

    Army M4 vs. Marine M16A4

For DCM (distinguished) matches the A2/A4 rifle is what is required, no M4 style rifles. Those matches have an obvious emphasis on accuracy, which I think corresponds well with the same mindset that the Marines place on individual accuracy.

    Quick T-45 question

Shit gets old, worn out, seals don't line up exactly like new. Lots of loss through the system so by the time it gets to you, there's not a lot coming out. Plus, unless you're going to the desert ecs doesn't exactly take the forefront on parts to fix. Compare that to your aircraft that's brand...

    Military Medical Counts for FAA

The most recent post on the Mil-Comp CFI prompted me to look and I wanted to start a new thread so it didn't get buried in the CFI thread. It looks like the most recent change allows us to use our military medical as an equivalent for a 3rd Class Medical. From Sheppard Air, which seems to be...

Being the FNG (Surviving rites of passage in your first squadron)

I think 18 months is pretty much standard across the board, just so they build in a buffer in cases like you said, flight hours, cruising, etc, or if someone is struggling.

Stupid questions about Naval Aviation (Pt 2)
