    t-34 comfort

OH yeah, try sitting off of the CG in the Hummer. Yeah, you'll know it when a pilot decides to kick a rudder for fun. As for -34's, just suck it up dude. You'll get used to it. I hate x-country's when the parachute would dig into my legs. That was the annoying part. Oh well.

    Blue Flight Suit?

Every squadron has some type of sh!t hots...I thought that was just common. I know VAW 115 has their stripe all the way down the leg. We call it the Speed Racer.

The Tomcat Legacy; 35+ years from Fleet Air Defender to Recce to Precision Strike

The reason why the tomkitty was decommed is because we no longer train to it's mission anymore. The tomcat was built primarily as a cold war weapon. To take the fight to the russkies and take out their a/c before they can get to the battle group. Well friends, those days are over. We needed a...

Supreme Court Allows Military Recruiters on Campus

When I recruited we sometimes had the same problem. But for the most part, people were very respectful in their dissent. I frankly don't mind that. If you don't believe in what we're (the military) is doing, fine with me. I could give a sh!t. It's when the uneducated "activists" get out there...

Are you kidding me? Navy QB charged with rape...

I think we can all agree that the military is full of both sh!tbags and good dudes. No matter where they came from or how. The fact is that the media loves to jump on a story when they smell blood in the water. Anything to embarrass the military. While I don't know the entire story, I can say...

Flight helmet question, inform the un-informed

We still use it for ICS cords and the strobe in the Hummer.

Good Stash jobs, and how to get them?

I did OHARP before flight school and I would definitely recommend it. My "boss" was an aviator and he said, "I know what you are about to go through so how about you come in if I call you. Otherwise, hang out dude." It was awesome. Six months getting paid to live in Chicago was awesome. I think...

How do you make yourself "like" to run

Before I joined up, I used to weigh close to 3 bills. Running really was hard. I could barely get the energy or will to run a mile. Eventually, I got myself down to a sfelt 200 pounds. My trick? I set distance goals. Obviously, you are not going to be a marathoner straight out of the gate. Set a...

    The media and aircraft

Oh yeah, try explaining what an E-2 NFO does...I gave my friends migranes. And they still think I am in the Air Force. One of them asked me how does an AWACS (E-3) land on the carrier. I responded, "Carefully"...Then passed out from pure anger.

    Prior Flighttime

The lack of a three pinks and your gone thing is pretty crazy. However, having gone through when the transition in grading was occurring, I can tell you that IP's were definitely less likely to pink a guy during the 3 pinks and your gone phase as opposed to the new MINTS crap. You might have...

The Tomcat Legacy; 35+ years from Fleet Air Defender to Recce to Precision Strike

OK, HE'S THE CAG....It's his wing, his show. Whether they liked it or not, he says what goes. Come on, did any of you realisitically think that a JO was gonna take that last trap. Whether the CAG is a good guy or not, someone with leaves or birds on their shoulders was going to take that trap...

    Prior Flighttime

I guess I'll chime in. It all depends on how flexible you are. I had a guy in my class who was a CFII and he got the highest NSS out of Intermediate than any FO in something like 5 years. There was another guy in my class who had his license and he washed out. It just all depends on how flexible...

Aviator Retention Poll Results - INTERESTING READ

From what I can gather from my buds who are on IA, you are doing something important. It's just dependant on what you think important is. Where my buds have problems is when you get thrown an M-16 and are told to go to it when you have been flying the ball for the past 5 years. What do you know...

Better: Glasses or Contacts while flying?

Dude, go contacts. First, you won't look absolutely stupid with those huge aviators they give you...Second, they are a pain with the helmet on. Finally, like everyone else said, your field of view isn't crippled by the glasses. Just my opinion but when I fly, I throw the contacts in and then...

    NFOs Phasing out?

I can speak for E2's...We are getting a brand new a/c in about 5 years and not only are there still three FO's in the tube, one of the pilots will actually have to be a controller...That's going to be a fun day...

    When to Rent?

It's a 3 br/2.5 bath townhouse in Larchmont. It's less than ten minutes from the base and it's in a nice neighborhood. It's 1600 sq. ft. and has a backyard. There is also off-street parking. If you need more specifics please pm me. I would love to have this issue caged before I head out.

I bought a house here in Norfolk and then got surprise orders to Cali...I leave in June. Can anyone recommend what time to put my place on the market to rent? Thanks.

A few questions about NSI comforts

They didn't check when I was there. If you show up and don't look lost, no one will question you. We were allowed to go to the o'club and that was great. The internet cafe was also good once you got some free time on the weekends.
  20. G

    Marriage

I would recommend you do it sooner rather than later. I know a lot of guys that tried to get a week off for their wedding and got slapped down. Most of them got the Friday before and the Monday after off but that was it. If you can do it in-between switching commands, that would be ideal.

    SU-30 High AOA Video

Once you get into the merge, you will eventually have to bleed off energy. It pays to have a jet that can handle itself well in a slow engagement because if it can't, charlie's gonna have a good day.

    Tech major?

Dude, almost 80% of the dudes in my flight school class weren't tech majors, myself included. Just major in what you want and apply. I was a 2 year guy and I applied with a major in...wait for it...theatre. (Begin jokes here) Trust me, I got a pinched eyebrow when I told them that I wanted to...

And for all you guys looking to go in-country and drop warheads on foreheads, just remember that charlie has the internet too. I wouldn't want Binbar Binbar Bazeem to know all of that crap about me. Just be careful what you post. It will DEFINITELY burn you.

    t-6

Ejection seats aren't exactly gonna save you m'friend. Plus, it's not like you're going incountry to take charlie out. You are going to do some spins and fly some airways. BFD. T-34's are awesome. If someone walked into the ready room and said that they wanted me to go fly in one, I would do it...

    t-6

Not for a while dude. Whiting's runway is too short is what I heard. It's going to be a while. Plus, I hear they are giving the pilots an upgraded t-6. Sorry dude, you're stuck with the 34. It's a good bird though. Definitely low maitinence when it comes to flying. Plus, it's ubelievable...

For all you electricians out there...help

Ok, so I woke up this morning and none of by bathroom lights work. Aside from the hilarity of bumbling around my bathroom trying not to slip and crack my head open on something, this is probably something I can fix. I went and I checked the breaker, reset it, and still no joy. All other lights...

    Upgrade to NFO Wings

Yeah, even when you aren't in Tacair (Hummers), you will still have to go through a lot more than just the nav. Brett is right though. You will be ahead of the game. Especially when you get to instruments. Good luck.

I say get something cool that he/she would really want. My parents got me a digital camera so that I could send them pictures from the boat and other places I had been to. Places to Live in Pt. Mugu

Can anyone give me the skinny on Mugu. Goober, I imagine this will be you...If someone could just give me a heads up on where to look. Thanks. Also, for those of you who lived in Norfolk, approximately how far in advance should I put my house up for rent? Let me know. Thanks.

    Chumming

Well, if they don't let you use falconview, you are going to have to do it manually. Basically, you go to an Echum website. (Ask around for what the site is. I have forgotten.) You list the route that you want and it will print out a list of towers that you will need to add with a lat/long. Then...

    separation/attrition from SNA/SNFO/SWO pipelines

In my opinion, there is a difference for those who fail out and those who quit. I imagine there are plenty of dudes who don't fit into what I am about to say but whatever...Guys who fail out generally WANT to be aviators. For whatever reason (not able to land on the boat, can't do instruments...

    separation/attrition from SNA/SNFO/SWO pipelines

I will add caution to the wind. Just be careful what you do. They are starting to send some attrites/DOR's/whatever to fill Army dude's billets in the sandbox. It happened to a dude that I started flight school with, it can happen to you.

    The basics of API

With the jacket comment...Guys, it doesn't get THAT cold in Pensacola, you won't need it. The leather is kind of a special uniform item. My recommendation would be to wait to wear it until you transfer up north or you earn your wings. Your green Nomex should take care of any issues you have for...

    Squadron 101

Dude, I gotta be honest, no matter how much you read about hornets, hawkeyes, P-3's, helos, whatever, you will do the majority of your learning once you set foot on deck at your squadron. I don't expect my intel spook to know exactly how my plane flies and stuff like that. I just want to know...

    Vt-4, -10

All I remember is the quote that was on everyone's mind when I was in -10. You walk into the ready room.....and your soul dies....It was hilarious. You would go into -4's ready room and dudes would be laughing and generally excited to fly and then you would walk down the hall, grab some popcorn...

NFOs life on a Super Hornet

NFOs life on a Super Hornet

Hey dude, OK, so it's interesting to hear that now you have to FIGHT to get a hummer slot. Bunk is right about the RAG, it's really a pain. If someone in pcola tells you that you will be treated differently because "it's the RAG", they are lying to you. You will find out really quick that you...

    Help!

The RAG itself isn't that long. From what my buddies tell me, it's about 7-9 months depending on various factors. The problem is not how long your husband will be training, the question is how long they are going to make him wait before he classes up. I have a buddy who got winged in July and he...

    leave charged over holidays?

Guys, trust me, just take the leave. I remember whining about having to take leave to go to some such place. Speaking from experience, by the time you get out of the training command, you will have a REDICULOUS amount of leave. When I reported to the RAG, I had 35 days on the books and now I...
