My BDCP questions leading up to final submission

Techs I talked to were cool. Certainly a lot of the staff were mission oriented and brusque, and I had to push for a couple things that the staff didn't want to give me, but other than that it was fine. Eye doc was friendly as hell. The guys enlisting were a variety bunch, and mostly pretty...

My BDCP questions leading up to final submission

I second drinking a lot of water. You're going to be peeing with a bunch of other guys so you need to be ready to go. I, however, drank too much water and was about to explode when they finally let us into the piss test. However, it's not that boring if you just sit around and shoot the shit...

Some Random Questions and a specific PRT question

You do a PRT before OCS where you have to hit your number, which is 47 for me. You can't go without passing that. At least that's how it is for my command. Do more push ups. A lot of them. In my experience. weight lifting like bench press only helps push ups marginally compared to doing a lot...

+1 for a meps style depth failure

Am I the only one who thought that the color blind test was trickier (just 'cause of the shapes of the numbers and stuff) than the depth perception? DP every one had a dot very clearly sticking out. For me. I'd be interested to see why so many guys have trouble with it even though they have...

SNA select, will I get really get the job I want?

You should probably prepare for an assload of responses about how you're not joining the Navy to "extend" your aviation career, but rather to serve your nation as a Naval officer first. I'd say that myself, but since I'm only in college I can't really talk. Still, if I got NPQd down the line...

    New BDCP applicant

Chances are good that if you can do well on the ASTB, have a good GPA, and have a little extra something to your application, you have a decent shot, depending on the month and the needs of the navy. Yes, "hurry up and wait" is the key phrase everyone writes on here all the time. I took the...

    Investment opportunities: ripe or foolish?

Because you can't get the same returns on savings accounts that you can on CDs. And no, I wouldn't put money into a 5-year or even multiple year CD now because interest could go up. But if you've got cash lying around and don't want to risk it, putting it in a 6-month or 1-year CD gets you...

Don't worry too much. You're going to have to wait at times. I started the process in February of 2008 and swore in late in July. Good luck!

The Naples incident/how to ruin your career before it's started/make others suffer

I'm just curious why this guy was removed from flight and who ordered it. I mean, it should have been clear that he didn't commit a DUI. Was the only reason that he was busted because of the "alcohol as a possible factor" part? This story sucks because it goes against that whole "be honest"...

    Prt

Yes it is, because the person giving it is a recruiter, a stash Ensign, or something like that. Not a Marine Corps Gunny. However, that doesn't mean you shouldn't practice perfect form. All I'm saying is that it's unlikely that your recruiter will knock away 20 pushups because you shifted your...
  21. P

    Prt

Oh, and proper form is really important at OCS. But from what I've read on AW, it's not as important afterwards. And in my personal experience, no one's going to bust your balls if you forget knife hands or look down during your PRTs.

The Great Pirates off the Somali Coast thread

Possibly an ignorant question... why use something like an LRAD against pirates? If all that happens to pirates is that they get scared off by some noise, why would they stop? Bullets are cheaper and easier. And probably a better deterrent. I can understand using it against unruly crowds or...

    Inglorious Bastards

The difference being Windtalkers took itself seriously. It tried to be a real, serious war movie but ended up looking silly and stupid. Plus it was more about Nick Cage than the actual Windtalkers themselves. Inglourious Basterds obviously doesn't take itself too seriously. It's about the gory...

    OCS push ups

I had to work my way up from low numbers... it just takes time and effort. Anyway, try different widths. Not only will it make you better overall if you vary widths when you train, but you will find the hand width that works best for your particular body.

Somehow I expected this thread to be about delicious food. Good luck dude, but this thread is extremely pointless... there's just no way to know until you get the board results. Incentives while in the BDCP?

Don't you keep the BDCP money though? In which case... even though I'd much rather become an officer, all enlisted men do at least those 2 years and they didn't get that kind of college money. So even ending up in that situation isn't exactly terrible. You gotta owe the government and the people...

    Just wondering

Yeah, but that money doesn't require work. And you're going to work for the Navy for the same amount of time whether you start 4 months later or not. Let's just agree that the Cards rule and U of A wishes they knew how to party like ASU :icon_glas
  34. P

    Just wondering

I am in a similar situation I suppose. I could probably pull off a semester earlier if I worked my ass off and changed my ADCP. And I'm also eager to get my career going. But I'll be damned if I'm going to do it. Acting like a real "go-getter" might seem smart, but it's not. You're accruing...

Changing From Ground to Air, before TBS

You might be if those are your orders. We all sign up knowing what we might be told to do and knowing that there are a ton of things we might be told to do that we haven't thought of yet. If you're not ok with serving in some capacity other than aviation or bombing a target that seems...

OCS Applicant Seeks for Your Experience!

500 yards is seemingly endless swimming? Maybe the guy should work out "full time" :icon_smil I think you're overestimating how much work it'll take you to get into OCS shape unless you're really set on BUDS, but that could take forever to get into if you can even get a spot.

  42. P

A few questions about BDCP from a HS Sophomore.

I'm good... That's your choice. BDCP won't stop you from doing DCI as long as you haven't graduated. If DCI takes you outside the country you need to get leave, which is not usually a problem but in theory you could get screwed. Your eyes need surgery to fly a plane and your feet shouldn't be...

    Blackhawk crash at A&M

Twice I've seen Army Blackhawks land on the SRC field at ASU to pick up ROTC kids. It was an amazing sight to behold, these big, dark, loud, powerful helicopters roaring onto our recreation field. Very sad that in this case it ended in tragedy. I hope the survivors pull through in their...

Financing a Nissan through Navy Fed

I'm not a JO, but I did buy a car once I got BDCP pay coming in. I figure proportionally to income, mine's about the same as you're looking at. I did 60 months and it's not a problem for me, but I'm not able to save much each month either. Not putting away as much as I would like. Oh well. I...

how hard, how long for acceptance, and what if I was arrested as a teenager?

Your recruiter is your friend. He's there to help you get accepted. Don't hide stuff from him. And don't lie. Also once you swear in you're in the military. You're going to OCS, or if you mess up you're going enlisted. Military money and life insurance will be great for your kid, but bear in...

Stupid questions about Naval Aviation (Pt 2)

Cross country flying for SNAs. Is this basically you tell them where in the U.S. you want to fly to and they let you fly there? Can this be used to, say, visit friends and family? ^Possibly the stupidest question in the thread.
