    WOOT! ASTB Done!

Dude, thanks for that big section of gouge. I'm a bit behind on FAA rules and in statics/dynamics, my worst thing was pulleys. Your info will definitely help.

    WOOT! ASTB Done!

Great work! edit: Nevermind, I saw your profile. Disregard everything below I'm going to schedule mine tomorrow. Just out of curiosity, what's your major? I've got some engineering under my belt and I still find some of the mechanics tricky.

    NAMI whammy

How does that disqualify you? I have left eye dominance, but I'm right handed. Would that be a disqualifier? Search didn't seem to point to that being the case.

    Advice/Chances?

How is the Navy different in terms of "guaranteed" flight slots? AFAIK, you sign for SNA or NFO before you go to OCS for either service...

The Navy won't know what hit it... :D

    HI, Just sayin Hi.

Halo rules. Good luck. I too will be starting my BDCP soon. Oh, and since no one said it yet, use the search function A LOT! It's amazing how much information you'll dig up.

    Callsign for Skippy

Well, now I pity the guy who gets Wedge. You guys are clever.

    Callsign for Skippy

From what I've seen people say, I guess it's something nasty. Well, I'd still tell people it's a star wars reference if I were that family member :icon_smil

Noise complaint against USAF from Homophobic caller

I thought Naval aviators figured that all AF guys were homos. But seriously, WTF is that supposed to be?

    Odds

Ooh.. yeah, they don't like this question. Anyway, all I know from what I've read on AW is that it varies, so do your best and put your choice down and hope. As for me, I'll worry about that after I get BDCP, after I finish OCS, after I've beaten my way through API and primary. Basically...

Someone can lock this... search says I will have to renounce it at some point down the road. Thanks.

    Dual Citizenship

I was reading Wikipedia and came across this section. I am a dual citizen of both the US and Australia, and have passports for both countries. I live in the US, have never lived in Australia, and have the Aussie passport because my father was born there. It's more of a fun thing to have and a...

    Service Selection

From my experience with my recruiter, they really need nukes. They're pushing this whole NUPOC thing pretty strongly in the engineering at my school. Lots of money, signing bonuses, and encouragement toward doing it (if you're qualified of course). If they had a nuclear-powered plane, I'd be...

    The Great Growler Gallery

Yeah, sorry, normally I'm better about searching. I got lazy :) Looks like Prowlers will be mostly gone if schedules are kept up (from the Navy--I just realized this is in the USMC forum). It's a shame too because I always thought they were cool. Oh well, I guess the last thing I need to worry...

UAVs, not just an Air Force gig anymore

With my luck, even if BDCP takes me next semester, I'll get winged and they'll immediately sit me down in a cubicle, where I will live out the rest of my career flying a UAV. Then again, that's better than sitting in a cubicle writing TPS reports.

    The Great Growler Gallery

While we're on the subject, if all goes well with BDCP and I actually get accepted and I'm winged in 2012, will there still be Prowlers? If I got NFO, that would be my top pick. Also, what % get jets? :) (one of these questions isn't serious. I'll let you guys guess which one)

What is it like to be an NFO?

Sorry to dig up an old thread, but I have a relevant question. Does this mean that as an NFO I would only actually spend about 2 years flying after winging, and the rest of the career isn't spent in planes at all? Is that similar for aviators as well? This is assuming I don't become a "lifer"...

    Interesting Jet Noise Complaint

Good response. I hope the person who wrote the letter was humbled by the sacrifice. Question: Why would anyone complain about getting to see F-16s (or any military aircraft, for that matter) fly in tight formation right over their heads? That sounds awesome. I was amazed and excited when I saw...

Chances of being a fighter pilot

I was being sarcastic. Sorry I didn't make it obvious enough. I'm not even sure what ONI does.. I just figured that the last thing they would care about is "how many get jets" :)
  21. P

Chances of being a fighter pilot

Right you are. I believe that's the current ONI estimate for the number of 2012 (2014 winging) SNAs that will be getting the F-35: 42%. I mean, their job at ONI is to figure things like this out, so that's probably a good estimate of the OP's chances.

    House Speaker Cindy Sheehan?

Seeing as that San Francisco is where they held a successful art show on the 4th of July with posters like http://www.zombietime.com/anti-july_4th_sf/IMG_4502.JPG I would say that San Francisco is her best shot. They're a bunch of f***ing nutjobs...

    Dealing with Recruiters..

I wonder why they push the reserves so hard. I know a guy who got a big bonus for signing up for the reserves, and you couldn't even get it for regular Navy.

    Different Jobs

Thanks for all the replies guys. Good information. Clearly I didn't know much about how the system works, and now I understand it better.

    Different Jobs

First off, I'm sorry if this is in the wrong section. I'm not sure where it fits best. I'm going to be applying for BDCP in not too long for SNA and NFO. I love aviation and want to serve, and the Navy seems like the best branch for that especially with BDCP available. But I've been wondering...

    BDCP Acceptence Percentage

Numbers could be misleading too. If you have the qualifications and most of the other guys don't (or at least, aren't as good as you), that percentage means little. Or at least that's just what I tell myself to avoid worrying about the fact that I will probably have a slim chance when I...

When are you locked into the Navy?

Not to threadjack, but I'm curious about how these answers will differ if you got in through BDCP. I've done some searches but have yet to find a good definitive answer. So if you're answering this question, in the course of doing so could you also mention any differences with regard to BDCP...

    BDCP Process

I thought you couldn't apply for BDCP if you were 12 months out or less... I could be wrong though. I haven't even applied yet. On further research, I guess I'm completely wrong. I can't find a single thing about that being the case. Not sure why I thought it was.
  29. P

    LOR Question

One area where I feel I'm a bit behind for my BDCP app is letters of recommendation. I can't really think of anyone to do one for me. The teachers who I connected with were in high school; I take big lecture classes in college, so I'm just another kid out of hundreds. I fear this will hurt me...

Anthropometric issues (are you too big or even too small or...)

Thank you everyone for the quick responses. Thanks for the info. I also did a search and it appears NFOs have different requirements, so even if I didn't fit there's that option (assuming I even get SNA instead of SNFO). Oh, that's good. So it sounds like I was making a big deal out of...

Anthropometric issues (are you too big or even too small or...)

Anthropometrics I was looking through some of the stuff on Air Warriors about anthropometrics. I was planning on applying for BDCP for SNA and SNFO in the spring of next year. The buttock-knee length, from my searches, appears to max at 26.5 or 26 inches. I'm a mere 5'11" or so in height, but...
