With my luck, even if BDCP takes me next semester, I'll get winged and they'll immediately sit me down in a cubicle, where I will live out the rest of my career flying a UAV. Then again, that's better than sitting in a cubicle writing TPS reports.

Sorry to dig up an old thread, but I have a relevant question. Does this mean that as an NFO I would only actually spend about 2 years flying after winging, and the rest of the career isn't spent in planes at all? Is that similar for aviators as well? This is assuming I don't become a "lifer"...

Right you are. I believe that's the current ONI estimate for the number of 2012 (2014 winging) SNAs that will be getting the F-35: 42%. I mean, their job at ONI is to figure things like this out, so that's probably a good estimate of the OP's chances.

I wonder why they push the reserves so hard. I know a guy who got a big bonus for signing up for the reserves, and you couldn't even get it for regular Navy.

I thought you couldn't apply for BDCP if you were 12 months out or less... I could be wrong though. I haven't even applied yet. On further research, I guess I'm completely wrong. I can't find a single thing about that being the case. Not sure why I thought it was.
