    But I sniveled!!!

I'll add one more to that. Put a nice big sign above your desk saying that if it is after 1200, then they do not have a "really good idea to include in tomorrow's schedule."

    All new Fraternization Policy

Yes, it would be inappropriate. Slightly off subject, but I can't remember seeing more than one or two dual-military relationships last where the woman was the senior person. And that is in 19 years... My advice: get over the whole "forbidden fruit" aspect or just date somebody your mom...

There is a summer weight skull cap. Not sure of the NSN but it is out there (I have one myself).

    advanced degree/deployment questions

It is solid info, but won't answer beyond that. Every board is a little different though, and IA's didn't have the same emphasis then, so things can always change (don't forget how important OOD letters used to be). The O-4 board isn't nearly as tight as the DH board, for what that is worth.

    All things MV-22 Osprey

I had a female H2P use a gatorade bottle in a 60S without making a mess. I think she wins on degree of difficulty alone.

If he gets to have a phrog instead of a slush-box 60, then he ought to have to get there and back.

    advanced degree/deployment questions

As a side note, for the FY07 O-4 board, a masters degree seemed to be the number one factor after FITREPS and billets, followed by JPME.

    Online Trading

I use USAA and have been happy with them, though I seldom make more than a half dozen trades in a year these days. Just personal opinion, but I work off the assumption that the institutional traders have an advantage in information that the "little guy" can never match. Keeping that in mind...

OP didn't mention daytrading, but if that is your intention I would point out that the vast majority of day traders lose money.

    Latest Marine One takes flight

Strictly HMX-1 guys when it is operational (unless it wins the 're-award' in the CSAR competition). DCMA and HX-21 guys can also get some time in it.

    What to fly... Advice?

Let me add one last bit of advice. The week I selected, everybody got helos. Highest, lowest, guy in between; it didn't matter - everybody got helos, some 35 guys from both from Whiting and Corpus. Some guys had their hearts broken. Some of us were still amazed that the Navy was paying us...

    Community deployment cycles and stuff

That opens a whole 'nother question. Some communities are more into night flying than others. I was an "early adopter" to NVG's in my community (now gone). My bro's ate dinner with their wives a hell of a lot more than I did. Should that be a factor in your decision making? I don't know...

    What to fly... Advice?

Yes, I have more advice: don't sweat it. You don't come off as one of those guys who is going to commit seppuku over not getting a particular platform. So list your choices in order of your gut, or via dart board, or per your astrologer, or alphabetically. Then have a great time with what...

    Latest Marine One takes flight

It is a lot longer story than that. Sikorsky was furious because they wanted the contract - they have been desperate to get the U.S. military as an S-92 customer. The overseas factor has been used as a political debating point, but Congress has already ensured that the production vehicles will...

    Latest Marine One takes flight

The schedule is just hugely compressed - they are talking IOC in a little over two years and they have accomplished just about squat for test points so far. There are dynamic issues with the tail rotor (block I's, read about Cananda's problems with them) and they've barely even tried...

BMW 6 series on Ebay w/ salvage title

Fair enough. I'm partial to BMW's myself so if you are going to do it you are at least looking in the right direction. The only complaint I've had with mine is that it is a complete pain in the ass to change the batteries. While I initially wasn't a fan of the whole I-drive thing (got the nav...

BMW 6 series on Ebay w/ salvage title

For OP: I can't tell your economic circumstances from your profile but I will throw this out there: you can earn a good living as an officer, and with a little bit of discipline you can save quite a bit and even find yourself far ahead of your non-military peers by your mid-thirties. Buying a...

    The Warrants have arrived

That trend is one of the things that helped influence me to redesignate. It seemed that HSC at least was moving towards "let's see him take one of those jobs first, then punch his ticket".
  23. B

    The Warrants have arrived

Brett and hscs have it right on this one. Also, if you are even scheduled for the pipeline at this point, then there simply are not going to be enough WO's to affect your career, unless you are a passed over O-4/O-5 looking for a C-12 job down the line. In that case, you are looking 15+ years...

    Tailhook?

If you do not disclose something to the docs, and get in when you would otherwise be NPQ, couldn't you have just screwed some other fully-qualified guy out of that slot? Guess they weren't quite our buddies yet.
  25. B

    Hsm-70?

They may be trying to sell that in the fleet to guys who want to avoid a boat for their second sea tour, but trust me, a 60 is a 60 and anybody who is a decent HAC in a B will quickly become a decent HAC in the R.

Intruder & Prowler - Mishaps [History]

And since I was threadjacking anyways, I'll add in a little encouragement for guys "forced" into helos. While you can't beat old-school VERTREP for fun, stick-and-rudder flying, it seems to me that you can't do anything more satisfying than saving one of your brothers when they are having a bad...

When are you locked into the Navy?

I got a lot of grief for essentialing giving up a guaranteed chance at O-5 for probable career suicide. Personally, I didn't care to have that always held over my head, and I didn't like the career path that locked me into (I would not have made Op Cmd). When talking to senior officers about...

When are you locked into the Navy?

One of the things that drove me nuts about the 1310 world is that re-designating was treated by many communities as an act of disloyalty requiring punishment. (That didn't stop me from doing it, but that is another story). I could never figure out how it was that somebody wanting to do...

HQ Marine Corps Aviation Plan Jun 07

Another thing they do very well is execute any of their own who stray from that plan. Nobody holds their folks to the party line on acquisitions better than the Marines.

Ft Meade is going to have serious growing pains as a result of BRAC. Unless it is some kind of community milestone tour I would skip it.

    Iwo Jima WW2

As a side note, among the upsides of FDNF tours is the chance to volunteer to assist on some of these recovery missions.

    Hsm-70?

I wouldn't worry so much about the R - if you like the B you'll at least be content with the R. Now, how you will feel about HSM vs. HSL is another question. Having never been an HSL guy, I cannot really comment on whether the new community will be better or worse, but if I were an HSL-type...

    Hsm-70?

Latest Rev: HSM-70: first orders cut in Mar 08 for a Mar 09 establishment. HSM-40: first R's coming in Q3 FY10. Having said that, that rev. still thinks they will deliver 26 R's next year, which I wouldn't bet my own money on.

    iPod is totally worth it

http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300173 I've done it (I like MAC laptops for travel). With that many songs, I strongly suggest getting both computers on a 54g or better wireless network (easiest way to link windows - OS X), but here is the gouge for that...

Australian Black Hawk Crash at sea

Wow. I am completely amazed by how much some of you guys were able to learn from that short video. If you know the a/c weight, environmental conditions, STR for the engines, true wind, airspeed, and the control inputs he was attempting (note that Chuck asked, he didn't try to tell) then you...

    Official Photographs in Bay Area

For what it is worth, I think Brett's point was accurate, and would even go so far as to say that the GS's at NPC would be more than happy not to spend their time putting JG photos in aviator's records when they will just need new ones long before anybody looks at their record. Having said...

    Department Head Board

I ought to amend my previous post to "butt ugly". However, much the same as CMD screen and O-5 results, there is a large amount of self-inflicted to that wound - at least on the HC side. Still, I have some former studs who went FRS - Boat - "thanks anyways", and I feel badly for them. EDIT -...

    Department Head Board

I think you would have to get a bubba list and do the math yourself (or ask the detailer, I'm sure they already did it). Seems to be 50% or less for HSC (old HC) at least. Didn't look at the others, I was just curious about my former students.

    RPG Defense For helicopters

And power requirements. And weight. And antenna issues. And space. And..... For Navy helos, it has to integrate with the 60R/S MC and play nice with the other kids on the (data) bus in addition to the issues above. It looks cool on paper, but I don't even have a guess as to how much money...

    Radio Work

Classic - nothing like dropping Bernoulli to carry Marconi. It is always worth it to emphasize to students that gravity has done more damage than the entire electromagnetic spectrum can ever hope to do. For me personally, unless you are going through O'Hare at rush hour, there is nothing...
