Mitch, the SR-25 is a 7.62x51, the SR-15 is the 5.56x45. There is a difference of ammunition in the field, but that is not a big deal because the M240 uses 7.62x51. Yes, it's not match grade ammunition, but it can be used in the lack of such.

The Marines also adopted a new scope this past year, the Schmidt and Bender M-854155 DS. This gunny is sporting it on his extremely well painted M40. I wish I was able to paint a rifle this well, damn.

The 5.45x39 is nearly ballistically identical to the 5.56x45 rd, and the Russian rifles are generally more inaccurate than western rifles, all already said. I have been able to find mass quantities of 5.45 rds for less than half the cost of 5.56 rds, but who knows how long that's going to last...

I don't think those are feathers because of their close proximity to the time of ejection. It mentions that they attempted to turn the a/c around after the hit and the engine stalled out, so there would be some distance between the remnants of the bird and their ejection location.
