    Going to MEPS

The eye doc needs to know you're applying for a Navy officer commission, and don't take the ASVAB. That's all I remember having to do differently... your mileage may vary. Also, I didn't think MEPS was that bad or boring. Just talk to the people around you; I guarantee you won't be bored.

    Going to MEPS

The doc will see it. Ask him to rub it and give you some ointment.

    Going to MEPS

Interview? I guess if you consider the doc saying "any problems? No? Looks good to me" an interview. No PRT, and no swearing in. As Skim said, MEPS is pretty much awesome. The calisthenics class was the best part.

    SWO/IP Designator

I want to say that the user m0tbaillie is in BDCP for SWO/IP. I'm not 100% on that, but you can PM him and see. He probably has a good idea about it if he selected it.

anyone who has been through OCS?

How insensitive. I was considering quitting college to go to fashion school, but OCS looks a lot less demanding so I'm trying to go that route.

    I've been converted

I'm very curious to get your input. I saw on (I believe) FutureWeapons that they did a test and the Dragon Skin handled a grenade and all sorts of impacts that they said Interceptor might not. A few other shows, to my knowledge, did tests that they said showed DS as superior. However, I've...

    I've been converted

In m0t's defense, the news does tend to have a lot of articles about stuff like this. I'm sure you've seen them and I'm sure it was frustrating. Clearly you have direct, firsthand experience that shows that, even if there was a time when gear was subpar (and I'm not saying that it was), it...

    I've been converted

Wow, that's very interesting to a guy who is (hopefully) about to be on the military payroll... But I thought Congress was mostly responsible for military pay. And it has fluctuated, but was mostly Republican during the Clinton presidential years... Just wondering.

    Shaky 20/40

Everything I've heard or seen has said that while reading and computer use can lead to short-term eyestrain, there aren't any negative long-term effects. Often our eyes get worse as we age, and this can coincide with stuff like school or work where we spend time typing and reading. Was MEPS any...

Max Pull-ups - How long did it take you?

Wouldn't want to scare off the kiddies by saying "cock" more than once! :icon_tong Speaking of stones, you don't want to lose proportion. Add a plate to your nutsack while you're at it.

    I've been converted

:icon_rage:icon_rage:icon_rage I didn't know one party had the ability to overcome the laws of supply and demand, or to force OPEC to make changes. Partisan crap like this is bad no matter who makes it. This is the kind of stuff that dumbs down political discourse.

    OCS beatings and odd exercises

What happens if your muscles just fail at some point during those exercises? You know, you're doing the 50 ____s and you hit failure. I've heard it's hard to attrite from OCS without DORing as long as you give it your best shot so I'm wondering what happens to you.

    Cheating...or just being "efficient"

FWIW, my business major friends would routinely be looking for someone with a non-graphing calculator they could borrow for finance tests since their profs didn't allow graphing calculators on exams. If he lets you use a TI-83 on tests, sounds like you beat the system. But if you want to be...

    Al qaeda feminists pissed!

Is that an Al Qaeda feminist? If so, I think I'm on the wrong side... :icon_smil Seriously though, what the hell? They figured out that they want equality, but are stupid and insane enough to miss the fact that the only place to get true gender equality is in the west that they hate so much...

    May 15TH Selection Board

Yeah... from my limited personal experience and what I've read on here, I don't see many guys who are retiring after 20 years in the Navy still having flying duty before they leave.

    Just Another Useless Question..

Your GPA is outstanding. I got my pro-rec for BDCP SNA with a Political Science major so I'm sure you'll be fine assuming you do well on the ASTB. Other than that, use the "search" tool because this kind of question has been answered a ton before. You're not alone in asking an old question...

Best way to build up push ups

You'll be fine. There was a time in my life when I could only do 10 push ups. I have my PRT probably this week and I'll do fine. Some of us just suck a lot, so we have to work harder to be slightly less sucky than we were. Best advice I've heard is to just crank out pushups all day. Do them...

How to Dress when meeting Officer Recruiter for the first time

I've never worn anything other than a t-shirt and jeans... but I go to ASU, so putting on jeans rather than shorts was a pretty big step, and not wearing flip flops was ridiculous. No one ever seemed to care what I was wearing. Given that, being overdressed is probably better than underdressed.

    MEPS question

As far as knees go, you'll do some squats, stand on one leg and kick, and you'll have to walk on your knees. But this isn't usually until at least a couple hours after you show up. When you walk on your knees it may not feel good, but don't make it clear that you're uncomfortable if you are--no...

best way to reach that goal?!

I am a humble college student in the process of applying, so take that for what it is. If he goes to the academy or NROTC, what he does is ultimately up to the needs of the service more than it is if he goes to OCS or PLC. As long as he's willing to serve without flying, that's not a problem...

    What's the deal

When I took it, I read the gouge here and used Arco. But what helped me the most on the test was having taken plenty of math and having taken physics + engineering mechanics. That's all you really have to do to prepare--that and learn the basics of ship and airplane operation from the internet...

    ASTB on Monday

When I took it, I had a small meal (peanut butter and part of a bagel) and some green tea. A small spike of caffeine can boost you without killing you halfway through the test. I did pretty well. Sounds like you don't sweat it too much, which is good. It's really not that bad of a test. One...
