    Ifs

I have also heard it said that IFS will now begin to affect your NSS. Don't ask me how much; I don't know that much about it, but study a little so you don't cut off Delta on final like my IFS partner did.

outdoor writer steps on his tongue

What I'm imagining is something that would be more national or even just state-wide mandate, but that would NEVER fly (and maybe it shouldn't, actually). I'm surprised that MA had something like that when we didn't have anything like it in podunk Missouri. Didn't realize that; I must have...

outdoor writer steps on his tongue

Right; once one area of the dam crumbles, the whole thing is in danger. It doesn't matter what the type of firearm is, it just matters who is using it. The kid in Salt Lake City was using a shotgun, and John Allen Muhammad and Lee Malvo were using a deer rifle. Honestly, the whole thing...

Paths to Naval Special Warfare (SEAL)

Socaldude: Check out Crossfit.com. There is an absolute goldmine of information there. I've heard (hearsay only, so take it with a grain of salt) that the CrossFit workouts and CrossFit-style workouts are what the SEALs do now for PT. Read as much as you can in the FAQ and search the...

    Commissary Surcharge

Can't remember about any farmer's markets but I know there's a pretty decent little grocery store on Scenic Hwy called Apple Market. Best produce in Pcola from what I can recall. The Albertson's on Bayou isn't bad either.

Correct Method for Building an aerobic Base

Kick, check out The Runner's Handbook. Give CrossFit a look too. The workouts are pretty demanding, but they're good stuff. Brand X Martial Arts also has a forum that scales each of the CrossFit workouts so you don't hurt yourself right off the bat.

    Ethics class

Might be kind of a hike to do in person (which I think makes the most sense myself; 70-90% of communication is nonverbal) but maybe you and a buddy or two could get in touch with some folks at Whidbey and head up there together or something. Just a thought.

    Leg problems

Noze, there's a sock splint you might try called the Strassburg sock. Might help, might not; don't know the extent of your injury. Bear, I have no idea. Have you tried any kind of trigger point therapy, massage, tennis ball therapy/release or anything like that? Wish I could help.

    IFS ground school

I don't know the details of IFS anymore, but I'd just worry about the accounting. It'd make more sense to wait than have it be taught two different ways in two different places. Just my $0.02.

    One Fast Dude

Dean Karnazes has run over 300 miles without stopping. He's shooting to run 500 miles without stopping sometime this year, I believe. If I remember correctly, he ran as a kid, but stopped when he got older, then one night decided to go for a run, without any previous training. 30 miles later...

    Anyone Had a PRK Enhancement?

I had to have a correction because one of my eyes was overcorrected more than the other--I was 20/20 in both eyes but there was a discrepancy in perceived object size between my left and right eyes, so I had to have the right eye redone. No big deal, but it sucked because it was right in the...

I second that big time. If I was going to do anything over again, I would've gotten my private and instrument ratings and gotten as much simulated or actual instrument flight time as possible.

There is one going in January; don't know when it starts but it'll go for a month. I didn't pay attention to the time details because it no longer applies to me, but I think the way it's supposed to work is once you're done with your FAMs here (so you see and understand course rules), you'll go...

    Flying w/a cold

A buddy of mine rode the pressure chamber in API with what he thought was the Pcola crud, and it turned out that he had a full sinus infection and was completely blocked. They hadn't made it past halfway to the final altitude before he felt the ice pick between the eyes, but what was scarier...

    Smith & Wesson??? "new" M&p??

I went to a gun show here in Corpus today and was sorely disappointed in the selection, so my buddy and I checked out one of the gun stores off SPID. I was actually pretty intrigued by the S&W M&P .40; the grip felt good and the fact that it's completely ambidexterous is a big advantage since I...

    Gmaps Pedometer

I've been using that for a while, but be careful with it; I noticed that in Pensacola, the map wasn't matching reality for a while until I emailed the webmaster of the pedometer site and had it fixed. Not a huge thing unless you're a nitpicky freak like me.

Question of the day on court tv

Not to the same level, of course, but this brings to mind something from when I was in school in my very small, Midwest hometown. The school board wanted to implement a more extreme essentially zero-tolerance punishment policy since they felt that violence at school had started to get out of...

Question of the day on court tv

I like that idea, except let's go one step farther: learn to shoot in high school. You could set it up an infinite number of ways, but I think it'd be good to have at least at a basic level of competence with rifle, shotgun, and handgun. Anybody who wanted to do some kind of tactical handgun...

Don't have any other ideas about the dog thing while you're gone, but you could also look into getting a house. A buddy of mine bought a place with a big yard for his two large dogs and that's worked out well for him. East Hill (where I live) is a good place to look for a house to rent, FYI...

    Running sucks

Something a guy I went to school with did was run half miles for a total of 3-4 miles. The 800m is the most miserable run in existence if you work at it correctly. He really dropped his times and ended up getting picked up for the SEAL teams, so take that for what you will. My old basketball...

I have no idea what they do on the AF side of the house regarding whether or not they'll let you live off base. I'd talk to someone in your chain of command down here before you make any big decisions (though the answer you get now may change by November). That said, the market for houses...

I don't know hardly anything about BDCP, but like the last poster mentioned, I can't imagine this will be something that will DQ you entirely. However, anything that gets you noticed in a negative way usually isn't good, so keep that in mind too. Do you have to go through OCS if you enter...

Okay, I'm going to get laughed at, but here's a couple of ideas: 1. Talk to some martial arts guys. Wushu or kung fu guys are ridiculously flexible, and they usually do their stretching exercises at the beginning of their workouts. See if they'll show you what they do. Even Aikido will get...
