    South Texas Wetting-down

Right now the plan is for the Islander. June 2nd. You know how things change, though, so we'll see. Be sure to make room in that busy calendar of yours, MB...

    South Texas Wetting-down

If you're getting promoted this month and are interested in getting in on a ridiculously big wetting-down one of the studs in VT-31 is planning, let me know via PM. We're trying to get a head count. The plan is to have a joint Primary and Advanced wetdown for all the squadrons in South Texas...

UPDATE!!! PICTURES !! Need roommate(s) in corpus

Your construction worker friend would probably know who they are--they literally tried to burn the place down. Silly Air Force--fire is for grownups.

UPDATE!!! PICTURES !! Need roommate(s) in corpus

+1 to what MB said. Really nice place, just don't try and burn it down like a couple of my friends in the same apartment complex tried to do right after they moved in...

    PRK experience?

Wavefront guided PRK in August of 2004 and November 2005; started at -5.25 in the left, -5.50 in the right, and now I see 20/20 in both eyes though it may have degraded slightly. The doc talked me into doing it one eye at a time--bad idea, incidentally, if you can find someone to take care of...

Pondering living in an RV for Krock...

There was a guy in API who was living in an RV at the campgrounds, but he was doing it for the exact opposite reason you were--somehow he was getting Boston BAH since his wife was there, and he wouldn't get it if he lived elsewhere. It has been done and probably will be done again.

    IFS in Pensacola

Surprising that Eglin is considered to be "fast" now; it was kinda slow when I was going through, and ironically Mobile, with only two planes, was the fast one. It took me ~70 days to get finished with IFS at Eglin, so count your blessings now.

UPDATE!!! PICTURES !! Need roommate(s) in corpus

I have a friend who is losing both of his roommates pretty soon; he's got a pretty nice house on the island.

    One step left....

I had a friend with scores similar to yours (I think; it's been a long time). She got SNFO, but flunked out in API, so take that for what it's worth.

^^^And you guys are doing the AF double pattern thing, too, right? The story I heard was after the AF lost the fight for a jet, and lost the fight to change the oil system (they didn't like something about it), they refused to budge on beta. Guess they got tired of losing and put their foot...

    FAM question.

And each block Squid mentioned is 4 flights. The first four, the C400X block, don't count for your NSS; C4101 is the first contact flight that counts. You will probably do BIs between the 4000 and 4100 blocks, which can help your basic airwork a lot. And I apologize in advance for using the...

I might take you up on that, Master, but I'm afraid I don't have any firearms to contribute to the destruction of your ex's flabby image, and, like Scoob, my sched will dictate. I'll shoot you a PM.

    ROTC Arrival PFT

No worries. I know, the studs on Crossfit are even crazier. I mean, seriously, check this shit out. The workout is called Fran, and it's three rounds of 21-15-9 thrusters (basically front squat + push press in one motion) and pullups. The guy on the left does not stop once the entire time.

    ROTC Arrival PFT

Mark Twight, the guy behind Gym Jones, learned what he uses in Gym Jones from Crossfit and passes it off as his own stuff. Crossfit is open source, but he takes it a level above that and claims it was his own idea. Not trying to get in a fighting match over the internet, just trying to set the...

    All things MV-22 Osprey

I called it a plane based on the rationale behind a curriculum change I'd heard is coming from a couple of the Marine studs. The Marine curriculum is cut nearly in half from what the Navy or AF kids do (they never do a Contact check/solo, only do a couple BI sims, etc.), and they do roughly...

    All things MV-22 Osprey

I was SDO the day an AF CV-22 came in and did a couple of "touch and goes" at Navy, which is a pretty loose term since it seemed to come nearly to a full stop each time. First time I'd ever seen one--the Marines were really excited, even though it was an AF plane.

Correct. If you have to live on base for a few days while looking for a place, call the cops before you get there to coordinate an escort to the armory from the front gate.

    Investing

Why do you feel this way? Just wanting to see your rationale. Is it because you don't feel like you have enough control over what you're picking? That's the one thing that I don't like about Vanguard. The index funds have such low fees they require a giant chunk of change up front, but I...

WBC to protest VA Tech Funerals --Will GOD smite you???

There's a book online called Addicted to Hate that became a court (and public) document after the author sued his employer. The book is essentially an expose of Phelps and the WBC--haven't read more than a chapter or two myself, but thought I'd pass it along. I'm sorta familiar with them just...

I read the book in college as our "book report" reading for an awesome WWII history class (which also allowed me the opportunity to interview my next-door neighbor, who showed up in the Ardennes Forest three days before the Battle of Bulge at 18 years old, having fired his rifle five times...

    TC-12 FTI clarification

The TC-12 FTI has gotten a little convoluted on Case 2 failures (crosswind turn). If there is a power loss, we roll wings level for the power up, rudder up, and clean up, then roll back into the turn and shut the engine down. If we get a light requiring a shutdown, we power up, rudder up, and...

Is it LASIK now and which one? Is PRK a safer bet?

Just to be devil's advocate here, I remember reading a post on a separate board (which of course means it's true, since it's on the internet, right?) by an eye doc who was saying that the Navy's LASIK study had gone exceptionally well. Just a guess, but I'd say it'll probably be coming out...

    ROTC Arrival PFT

/begin slight threadjack There's a huge belief that bodybuilding is somehow the right answer when training for military performance, but it's really not. That's an easy trap to fall into; I did for a long time, and so do most anyone who goes to college and hits the gym. There is a gigantic...

    Scholarship Postponement

Tricare's not that big a hassle. I went through my dad's Tricare coverage while still a mid and asked my primary care doc to set up an appointment with a podiatrist to get my orthotics resized/updated, and I think I just had to pay a copay and for the orthotics themselves. It's not a big deal...

SrTitan, I second telling the command. You don't want to keep this under wraps. How long will something like that take to heal? I'm asking because if it's a relatively short thing you might be able to keep the scholarship, but not do O&I with the unit--you'll kind of be the odd guy out once...

In that case, I'd actually say go talk to a podiatrist. It's amazing the difference it makes having your orthotics fitted and made correctly, and with an assymmetric issue like yours, it'd probably be more of an issue than mine was. Some shoe stores are pretty good, others aren't; podiatrists...

There was a thread on this a little while ago. Run a search first. I've worn custom orthotics since I was in eighth grade. If I hadn't, I probably would've gotten a lot more injuries than I did, not to mention your average aches and pains, so having them is much better than the alternative...
