Qual sheets...what a joke. My boat this summer gave us some qual sheets....stuck it in the back pocket and forgot about it. Work on a real qual card insted. For example, I completed the Broadband Sonar Operator qual sheet when I was underway. But believe me, the middie quals are BS.

Can you give me some details as to how the FOREX is run? I've been told that its quite structured in regards to activities and ships etc. Any insight? I'm dying for dates too...but not sure if thats a good idea on here...

My cruise is a FOREX with Japan. I am the only one at my unit that has found out so far, but that is because I requested a unique cruise. Still waiting to hear on dates, but I'm headed for the Far East!

My CO told me that they look out for other CO's who give their mids high grades just so they can get the slots they want. My Captain told me flat out not to expect anything like that, and he'd grade me based on what he thought of me.

I think they take all this into account when selecting people for pilot etc. For example, if one unit's applicants all recieve 100's on from the CO's PNS points, they compare it to other units where the CO actually gives points based on merit. I was told they they do filter through that kind...

So when my reputations points are rocking out at 10....he can just turn it up to 11? damn....

I'd say for a run time that needs to come down for passing purposes, getting some distance is the key. Get out there and do some longer runs, at least 3 miles at least 3 times a week. Time will start to fall off.

In regards to Hornet rides, they gave them to the Marine Options on Aviation Week. That was because all the MO's went over to Miramar while the Navy Options went to North Island. You might still sneak an S-3 flight, but I'm not sure how many of those squadrons are even left.

Yeah, you could always do freshman year in NROTC. Then, if you still want to go to the academy, just apply during your freshman year. I know mids who left after freshman year to start over again at the academy.

For your 2/c and 1/c cruises, it does depend on the length. But everyone gets that same for CORTRAMID on the 3/c cruise. You'll actually take home around $700. But trust me, this will get spent on cruise, especially if you go to San Diego for West. Last summer, I banked about $850 on a month...

What does size 8 pupils mean? I had 8mm pupils and did the custom procedure through TLC vision...the results are excellent. Custom PRK isn't experimental....it's readily available.

I did the custom thing because I have large pupils. With the exception of the first few days, I never saw a single halo or starburst. The results are fantastic.

Note: there are very few mids who hate NROTC. Those that do, well, they tend to filter our as time goes on.

Something that hasn't been mentioned yet: you learn to take care of yourself. By this I mean you learn how to deal with bills (rent, utilities) and budget your money. This may seem like an annoyance in college, but youre better off learning it early than after you've already been commissioned...

There are most definitely 3 categories now. Engineering gets 100% of the points, Tech gets 85% and Liberal Arts gets 75%.
