It's that plastic sheet that slide out from between the instrument panel and the ordnance panel on an AD-6. You put your box lunch on it.

    WHY KEEP USING SSNs

During my association with the Navy I had four different serial numbers. NROTC (c + six digets) Whitehat/NAVCAD (seven digits) Commisioned (same as middie without the C) and the SSN. Some of my records exist only under one of them. Lots of important stuff somehow doesn't get carried forward.

Is the engine any relation to the GORJE (Generic Ordnance Ram Jet Engine) that we were trying to test at China lake in the mid '70's?

    Hokey carrier landing trials video

The designation change occurred because SecDef couldn't figure out how the Air Force F-110 and the Navy F4H could be the same aircraft. He considered the Navy system too complex, so made us change. It happened in my log book between October 1962 and November 1962. (AD-5W to EA-1E)

    Miramar/San Diego Airport

The Navy gave them Brown Field in '61 to develope for a civilian field, but they decided to build a terminal on the other side of the runway. We ended up going out to San Clemente for FCLP. That was a real joy. The try for Mirimar is pretty much a land grab by the corupt locals anyhow.

In '59 Magnolia Field was solo's only. No instructors allowed. The pattern was something to behold.

    The Warrants have arrived

Historical note: Ten years before Brownshoe's time, there was a route for enlisted men to get their wings and commission. They took a college equivalency test, flight physical, an aptitude test and an interview. About one in ten that applied made the program, and of course a third of them washed...
