    2nd Class Cruises

Qual sheets...what a joke. My boat this summer gave us some qual sheets....stuck it in the back pocket and forgot about it. Work on a real qual card insted. For example, I completed the Broadband Sonar Operator qual sheet when I was underway. But believe me, the middie quals are BS.

1st Class Cruises...Where are you going?

Can you give me some details as to how the FOREX is run? I've been told that its quite structured in regards to activities and ships etc. Any insight? I'm dying for dates too...but not sure if thats a good idea on here...

1st Class Cruises...Where are you going?

My cruise is a FOREX with Japan. I am the only one at my unit that has found out so far, but that is because I requested a unique cruise. Still waiting to hear on dates, but I'm headed for the Far East!

    Aviation/Commissioning Formula for Rankings (NROTC)

My CO told me that they look out for other CO's who give their mids high grades just so they can get the slots they want. My Captain told me flat out not to expect anything like that, and he'd grade me based on what he thought of me.

    Aviation/Commissioning Formula for Rankings (NROTC)

I think they take all this into account when selecting people for pilot etc. For example, if one unit's applicants all recieve 100's on from the CO's PNS points, they compare it to other units where the CO actually gives points based on merit. I was told they they do filter through that kind...

    Achieving maxes

I'd say for a run time that needs to come down for passing purposes, getting some distance is the key. Get out there and do some longer runs, at least 3 miles at least 3 times a week. Time will start to fall off.

In regards to Hornet rides, they gave them to the Marine Options on Aviation Week. That was because all the MO's went over to Miramar while the Navy Options went to North Island. You might still sneak an S-3 flight, but I'm not sure how many of those squadrons are even left.

I think CORTRAMID is what you make of it. West....well, you're going to be in San Diego, the nicest city in the country! I celebrated my b-day on CORTRAMID as well. I think all of the weeks are awesome, you just have to keep an open mind and try everything they offer. Like CH said, ASK if...

    frustrated with recuiters

You can always go to the college/university of your choice and join their NROTC unit as a college programmer. If you perform well in the unit and get good grades, this increases your chances of picking up a scholarship while in the unit. You can also get advanced standing, meaning you can...

Pakistan to Get F-16s from US

I had no idea that the Pakistanis had a good air force. From the page you posted, A-4s, it definitely looks like they can hold their own, even with the outdated F-86. I also read (in some Aviation magazine) that India had a good air force too. The article was about some AF F-15 crews going up...

    NROTC/USNA Questions

Yeah, you could always do freshman year in NROTC. Then, if you still want to go to the academy, just apply during your freshman year. I know mids who left after freshman year to start over again at the academy.

    active NROTC pay

For your 2/c and 1/c cruises, it does depend on the length. But everyone gets that same for CORTRAMID on the 3/c cruise. You'll actually take home around $700. But trust me, this will get spent on cruise, especially if you go to San Diego for West. Last summer, I banked about $850 on a month...

    Shafted....

What does size 8 pupils mean? I had 8mm pupils and did the custom procedure through TLC vision...the results are excellent. Custom PRK isn't experimental....it's readily available.
  25. NozeMan

    Custom vs Conventional

I did the custom thing because I have large pupils. With the exception of the first few days, I never saw a single halo or starburst. The results are fantastic.

    NROTC/USNA Questions

Note: there are very few mids who hate NROTC. Those that do, well, they tend to filter our as time goes on.

    NROTC/USNA Questions

Something that hasn't been mentioned yet: you learn to take care of yourself. By this I mean you learn how to deal with bills (rent, utilities) and budget your money. This may seem like an annoyance in college, but youre better off learning it early than after you've already been commissioned...

    active NROTC pay

Scholarship midshipmen get a stipend instead. The ammounts are as follows: $250 freshman year, 300 sophomore year, 350 junior year, and 400 senior year. This is monthly, by the way.

Good to know we are still wanted

Man, I've never read anything quite so ignorant. Let me get this straight, part of the reason he doesn't want ROTC on campus is because it would allow underpriveleged minorities to have an opportunity to go to the school. Now is this the enlightened Ivy League mentality we've been hearing about?

Transitioning from helos 2 fixed wing?

I have some advice: stop being gay. We don't care if you've been picked on your whole life for whatever reason. The bottom line is that your attitude offends a lot of people who are the real deal here. Grow up. ....man, I wish I was cool and talented enough to have 200 hours....[insert...

    How long does it take??

I had the Custom PRK done a month and a half ago. Today i saw 20/20 combined...the results kick @ss. Anyways, normal PRK is pretty self explanatory...its what they use for most patients who don't have any extenuating circumstances. I had custom because my pupils were 8mm, while normal people...

Knee Problems and the DODMERB Physical

Try and be careful about lying about your medical problems...I know of a kid who had knee surgery in his past and didn't tell the Navy about it. He got kicked out as an integrity violation sort of thing. But as long as your performance is 100%, it shouldn't be a problem. I know of people who...

According to a brief that was given by my XO, there are three different point levels for majors in the Aviation Selection process. They are Engineering, Technology, and Liberal Arts. I believe that AvTech is included in the technical category.

    Custom PRK

I had the custom PRK procedure that uses the Wavefront technology. I do know what the difference between custom and the Allegretto are though. For all I know, they could be the exact same procedure. Anyways, the custom has worked out pretty well for me. I had it done on 16 DEC and...

    More Questions???

Having an aviation major doesn't really do anything for your pilot selection. The only immediate benefit of having an "Aviation Technology" type degree is that you get more points for a technical major when it comes time for selection. As far as college academics goes, your GPA does most of...
