na, i really didn't know what i wanted to fly, i was just happy to be flying. my grades were slightly above average throughout flightschool ... i got lucky and was selected for all my first choices ... i would not have been disappointed if i got selected for helos though ... yes, we were flying...

sheew, i don't envy you bud, but i was there this time 3 years ago! na, we didn't in-flight refuel. it ended up being two legs there and three legs back, i got to fly three of the five legs ... we had a centerline tank and a really strong tailwind so we made it to Vance AFB for gas, then on...

nope, at least myself & my roommate didn't ... there is a certain amount of time that you are allowed to claim DLA, like 45 or 60 days ... so once your 6 weeks is up, you gotta get to Admin asap and fill out the proper paperwork, or yea, you'll get screwed out of it Frumby ... oh well, life in...

    Night/Storm Landings

the ACLS in Mode 1 on the Hornet can bring it all the way to touchdown with hands off the stick & throttle ... in Mode 1A it will get you to 200 feet before the pilot takes over ... an ILS or PAR can also be flown. semper fi

when i left Kingsville last year they were still making new guys stay in the Q for 6 weeks after checking in, but most guys, myself included, went ahead and got a place out in town anyways & paid for it out of our own pockets ... you still have to keep a Q room for 6 weeks though. semper fi

LA Times 4-part series on "dangerous" Harrier

i had an IP @ K-Rock that ejected outta the Harrier, engine failure on a low level, but i also heard (from several Harrier guys) that 75% of Harrier crashes were due to pilot error ... something to do with hovering and the wind? the Harrier has a lot of potential, and from my understanding did...

hey Jack, question for ya, bud

hey bud, i was reading in the latest Journel of Electronic Defense that the Navy is planning on acquiring at least 44 E/A-18G Growler's by fiscal year 04, and continue acquiring ~50 a year until '09 ... and slowly phase out the E/A-6 over the same time period, including phasing out all Marine...

    Harriers!

Jack, those guys are called bottom feeders. the Harrier cut-off is around a 45 NSS ... to get the boot out of Advanced for a Marine is around a 40 NSS, so a person would be treading on thin ice to try that route to the Hornet. another thing is if a person can't fly a T-45 and get an average NSS...

    Rules

i qualified on the USS Truman in May ... there are specific rules you must follow (at least for the Truman for this particular bounce period) ... for departing the patttern on the Cat shot or a "bolter": once airborne & two positive indications of climb, you raised your gear and flew at 500...

    API Subjects

hi it's nice to be proactive like that but just because you have the manuels, you still won't know what to study, and if you haven't gone to TBS yet, you might want to be looking for those manuels first and not to even worry about API or flight school. semper fi

    SNA or SEAL???????

you can be guarenteed a Aviation contract, you're not guarenteed a SEAL contract ... if you flunck out of BUDS training or get hurt, you'll then be busting rust on a surface ship or sub ... in aviation, if you don't get jets, you're flying Helo's or P-3's my 2 cents worth ... Jar
