    Best Bars in Pensacola

21 was what put Dragon Lounge out of business. D.L. was similar to 21, except it wasn't full of Corpus's "elite" (i.e. newscasters, politicians, and low-end hockey players). They opened 21 just before I was winged, back in 2000, and all I remember were 7 dollar weak-ass gin and tonics and a 15...

    Best Bars in Pensacola

any old guys remember Dragon Lounge in Corpus? I loved that place. Too bad they couldnt keep up with such "hip" attractions as "Tomfoolery's/Deadeye Dick's" (could you please come up with a more queer name? oh wait....how about TWO) and "Sharkey's" (oh listen...'YMCA'....it must be 10:15....)...

    Nrotc Commissioning Lineal Numbers

You do get lineal #s at commissioning. And it means......................NOTHING. Except maybe at SERE, when it comes down to an NROTC or and Academy guy for class leader...."Aw shucks, looks like you get the honor....."

What kind of people survive ocs & flight school?

In very very very few and rare cases, they let you switch. The issue is, should they even bother? Someone who attrites from one program has shown they can't hack it there, why spend the money on them in another program, when you have a new Ensign who wanted that job as his first choice? And...

What kind of people survive ocs & flight school?

What I'm saying is, yes, you do go home. BUT you do not lose your commission. They don't say, "Hm, couldn't hack it eh? Well yer out, and hand over your bars and certificate as well". You are put in an inacitve reserve status. They aren't going to completely lose hold of you after blowing...

29 May eh? Man I'm out of the loop for a month and look what I miss. Uh...er...I think I've said enough about P-3s... Look, whatever you end up in, your happiness will depend on your attitude. There are bitter people in EVERY community. Those are the ones who stand out in your mind...

What kind of people survive ocs & flight school?

You keep your commission. What I THINK Patmack 18 is referrign to is the old NAVCAD program where enlisted guys came in, went to OCS, went through the program, and then were commissioned upon winging. This program died in the early 90's I think. Now all SNAs/SNFOs are officers upon starting...

Can you even augment while in the program? I thought you had to be winged for at least 2 yrs or something. I wasn't even offered the option until I had made O-3. It took almost a year to go through (deployment didn't speed things up).

    computer use during flight training???

Wait until right before your first deployment and then buy a screamer-fast laptop for movies and entertainment. You'll end up spending the night in some sketchy places where that copy of CKY will help pass the time better than Al-Jazeira (or however you spell it).

Naval Officers being asked to retire

    >what about supply officers? All junior officers. If you have a commission and can't get your ducks in a row, yer out. >also, if you were "fired' could you go through OCS and get re-commisioned? Why would they re-commission someone who had already been booted? The answer is no.

Alright I am bored out of my mind at Defense Language Institute and the Navy Flying Club is calling my name. However, I have done ZERO civilian flying. Any other Fleet guys taken this route? It's gonna be at least until November before I can tie on a SkyPig again, and not flying is driving me...

Naval Officers being asked to retire

Yeah, no one is being "asked" to do anything. Basically if you're a junior officer and you flunk out of flight school, SWO school, or sub school, you no longer have the option of switching communities. Guys with their respective pins aren't safe either, if they fail to meet whatever standards...

I start Spanish here at the Defense Language Institute tommorrow. The extra pay only kicks in after you have completed a government course here in Monterey, and even then you need to be in a billet which requires you to use that language (not SNA, sorry). When i get more details I'll post 'em.

    Opinions on Lehman

In a nutshell, and 3 weeks after reading the book, the claim is that he never went through the standard (for then) flight school path. Supposedly he was an intel guy (or staff type of some sort) as a reservist. I guess he went on one ride in an A-6 "over the beach" into Vietnam and wanted to...

    Opinions on Lehman

Doing a little research (aka net surfing while my movers do my pack-out), I found he did somehow get pilot qual'ed in helos. Supposedly to the chagrin of many fleet guys. He was also a CO of an A-6 reserve squadron while serving as SECNAV. Weird. I think I also read he was responsible...

    Opinions on Lehman

Well, I just re-read "Fall from Glory: The Men who Sank the US Navy" about Lehman and the Reagan era administration. Granted, it is extremely slanted, but I found a lot of it interesting. Any of you senior guys have any thoughts on Lehman's policies? What about the supposed shady way he got...

Many wannabe aviators walk in, and they all walk out. Whether they're staying in the pipeline is the issue. For the most part, the physical is fair. However, if at any point you feel you're being rushed through or not getting a fair evaluation, bring it up to a flight surgeon. There are a...

What P-3 guys are seriously worried about this? All that's been mentioned is a UAV control post onboard the MMA. I sincerely doubt any winged naval aviators are going to be in an operational squadron, and only qualified to pilot a UAV. The more likely scenario is an AW type enlisted guy...
