    Careers for military spouses?

I think you need to read more and understand exactly what your career is going to be like for the next 11 years or so, then be really honest with your girlfriend. You're going to be moving, a lot, during the training command. Figure that's three years lived 6-8 months at a time in one place...

Rotary Wing Roundup (Helos at work in Maritime Environment)

We are pretty much taught the intake rate isn't going to beat the burn rate for a HOGE, so it's of limited utility.

    Primary on Monday

Times vary based on a lot of things like weather, maintenance, and stud performance. Average is around eight, with 6-12 being the variation. I took 9 months, more like 10-11 if you count stash time at the wings. In reality, it doesn't matter. The time you take to finish primary has little effect...

Buying a car before moving to P'cola

True that. VA taxes are insane. Florida is decent and offers the no tax if you purchase it out of state and title in FL.

Buying a car before moving to P'cola

As many have said here, having a car during OCS and then to get to PCola is a good idea. Your situation is tough. Honestly, as much as it sucks, I'd just take the Govt plane ticket to PCola and buy something there. New York taxes and fees have got to be insane. There's a boatload of non-sketchy...

    sTUPID qUESTIONS aBOUT ocs

I came into OCS with student loan debt and a car payment. On the plus side, once you start there you can use the SCRA go change your interest rates to 6% fixed. It's not a lot of pay for someone with debt, but if you know if going in, you can manage well. Oh, and you'll be spending exactly nil...

USN may add conformal fuel tanks to F/A-18E/F fleet

And just think, we're a quarter of the air wing now! :) In all seriousness, I wonder if the amount of fuel dumped around the boat will ever become a target of the bean counters.

Don't we already know the Navy's plan for low intensity air support from the sea? Fire Scout. 14 hrs of loiter, ISR package, Hellfire caliber weapons, etc. Throw it on anything with a flight deck. Welcome to our robotic future gents.

    MCPS Aircrew Fleece

To the OP, the worst you can do is ask the LS/MCO/Sypply folks. Get whatever you can, whenever you can. You never know when the next "We got shorted 7F funds from NAVAIR this quarter" will or won't be. Greasing the wheels never hurt either, just saying... Also, the fleece stuff is money...

    MCPS Aircrew Fleece

"Talk to the PRs" or "We don't have any money"? To the OP, they can be ordered through the supply system. Get with your LSes or MCO and ask. Be prepared to beg.

    IFS down the tubes?

I wouldn't be surprised if the whole program has ballooned in terms of cost since its inception. There's a whole civilian staff at Schools Command, plus the cost of paying the contract flying companies. To me, IFS was just another Navy induced hurdle. The 12ish hours I got of stick time...

    The great NWU's

Fair enough. I'm not a fan of khakis in general, but that's me personally. Flight suits are the norm today unless you're standing duty, and I'm not complaining. Kmac has the right idea in reducing the seabag. Bags afloat, type III nwus ashore, blues for dress. Three uniforms, three...

Macbook Air versus Pro - Thoughts?

I think you're underplaying the role of Thunderbolt as an expansion port. All MacBooks (air and pro) have it, and it obviates the need for eSata. One can use thunderbolt for all kinds of expansion when the need it, and maintain portability when it's important.

Macbook Air versus Pro - Thoughts?

The retina pros are pretty amazing kit. I wouldn't get the older model with an optical drive. I have an 11" Air and the small 64gb hard drive is an annoyance. I have a 1TB Thunderbolt external that's rediculously faster than anything USB I've had, but it's constantly tethered if I need to...

    Automobile to Newport?

Reliable transportation is an expectation as an officer. You get paid decently enough to have wheels that don't suck. You don't need a Vette or something stupid, just basic wheels. "My car broke down" is a useable excuse once. After that you become "that guy" pretty quick. Get your shit in...
