Flying for Navy, Marines or Air Force?

While I was incarcerated at Vance Prison, the AF folks kept talking about them needing more staff officers who are pilots, meaning guys who are more of the O-4 and above type. I believe they are doing fine on pilots going through UPT to fill the regular you fly and only fly spots.

Zug, stupid questions do not warrant a response. Go check your facts, get them straightened out, repost, and maybe then someone will respond.

How many other major league baseball team can spend $200 million per year to buy whomever they want for a team??? If any other club had that kind of financial power, they would have all the championships. King George Steinbrenner and his evil empire are going to ruin baseball in the long run...

    Good Things about Vance

Slated for next year I believe, though not sure exactly when. Obviously this is probably dependent on Vance not getting closed during BRAC.

    cool pic

Actually Tango 1, those of us attached to the flying units of Navy Oklahoma do work on the 737, as well as the TACAMO itself which essentially has 737 engines. I can tell you, many a live animal has played chicken with our CFMs and the end result of each encounter has been dinner and a working...

    T-34C cross country questions

Vegas baby! It's a full day's work to get there but very much worth it IMHO. Split a room at Luxor and you end up only paying out like $40 a night of your own cash duing the summer, and during winter it'll cost you nothing of your own.

    Primary Location Info again

Punk: Those numbers for CC International looked waaaaay low. I think you only put down one months worth if I read the web site for CCI correctly. They had year to date numbers of over 700K for passengers.

I was there for 10 months and never saw this supposed motorcycle gang. I definitely would take Corpus over Pcola anyday.

HELP ME CHOOSE VANCE vs CORPUS!

A bit of a sidetrack here: I have heard that both TACAMO and P-3s will be reducing the number of pilots coming in by about 20-25%. Does anyone know if this is also a reason for the backup? With this large of a pool and no end in sight, are they going to cut the number of aviation slots NROTC...

Giving up your first class seat?

Well, technically we cannot accept free gifts since it could be percieved as favoritism. I can tell you of many places that gave $1 meal deals to air crews for coming to their FBO (and buying hundreds of dollars of their gas), and we are talking meals that would cost $10-20 normally. The...

Giving up your first class seat?

I was flying to San Dog on United and the captain gave word to the FAs to give free drinks to the servicemen on board. There were a bunch of guys heading to Pendleton then onto Iraq. (I declined the offer since I didn't think it would be right for me to take the drinks seeing as I have a very...

    Good Things about Vance

Navywife: are there good things about Vance, yes. Are they outnumbered 10 to 1 by the bad, yes, at a minimum, I could even say its 20 to 1. Not everyone is an anal retentive a**h**e, but there are more than enough to go around, and far more than I saw in a CNATRA command. I place the blame...

HELP ME CHOOSE VANCE vs CORPUS!

Sorry my OU fan, you probably hurt yourself by making this choice. Very rarely do folks who go to Vance end up staying with their class all the way through T-1s. I've heard maybe one person per year gets TACAMO out of Vance, and some years no one. I can tell you from experience, walking...

    Boeing or Lockheed?

Ah, T-ONE, gotcha, this is my Sunday as I had to work all weekend so my brain is still in slow mode. All those MMA FRS at Vance notions I'm thinking you meant Tinker. As for your last part, amen brother, if the T-1 was flown under CNATRA rules everyone and their grandmother would be going...

    Boeing or Lockheed?

Ah, Zab, what they hey is TONE's at Tinker??? I mean I am stationed here and I have no idea what that is or is supposed to mean. I will say I do not think you will find a single TACAMO guy who would be upset if we got more 737s and had to do the innitial MMA training, I sure...

    Emergency Shutdown Handle...pull

All I'll say is the engine maintainers in P-3 land are going to like their jobs a whole lot more when they get the CFMs. Word is you can count the number of engine failures/shutdowns the E-6s have had on one hand, and we're talking 15 years of use.

HELP ME CHOOSE VANCE vs CORPUS!

The vast majority of AF folks I graduated with at Vance who are heading to AMC squadrons (C-17, KC-10, ect) say they are waaaaaaayyyyyy more laid back than AETC. I'm not as sure about the fighter geeks going to ACC squadrons but they indicated its not as bad as AETC either.

This info is 18 months old so it could be out of date so double check to be safe: 1) Yes its true, you have to check in by 2359 on Monday. I didn' leave Pcola till Sat afternoon and made it to Corpus late Sunday afternoon. Other guys left Friday afternoon and made it to Corpus very late...

Didn't y'all see The Dat After Tomorrow??? All you anwsers to why the weather has been so bad are in it. I'll summarize: The bad weather is being directly caused by big business and the Republicans. It is a huge conspiracy to disrupt the atmosphere and cause massive shifts in normal weather...

    A quick little question

What Dave said is true with one exception. If you get selected for TACAMO after primary, you know you will be flying the E-6 from that point on. If you are selected just for maritime, you know you will be flying some form of P-3 (P-3 or EP-3). It is a plus because you no longer have to...

    Question about Never Flying

Ah, good old L flight, I was in it, guess you are the group that took our place. How is it there nowadays? Capt. Jeffrey's a good guy both as an IP and I'm sure as the new Flt/CC. Definitely fly with Sanders during NAV as much as possible, if you want know why just ask him what instructor...

    Question About NSS

One's NSS is derived solely from the magical elf, or maybe its a gnome, who waves his magic wand and presto, there's your NSS. Flying has absolutely nothing to do with it, never has, never will! :icon_tong

    Question about Never Flying

A lot of good advice here. If you can't see yourself with wings on your chest, then get out and let someone else have a chance, redes or boot not withstanding. Too many people who truly want this opportunity are not being given it nowadays, and it's not fair for you to take away one of their...

    Lame Patches

Almost right, just change Service to Specialized (as in AETC thinks you are a special ed student and therefore need to be babysat for 12 hours a day). You want to see patches that should be outlawed, try just about any patch you see on an AF flight suit on the front right side (most...

    Quick question, Failing NOMI physical

A guy I knew who reported to API at the same time I did found out his astigmatism has gotten worse and pushed him out of the tolerances for pilot. Instead of just sitting back and taking a FO redesignation, he put his package in for the surgery and it was granted. He ended up with like a 6...

    Boeing or Lockheed?

Little gouge form your friends in Navy Oklahoma :) As far as the NAV goes, well, its probably all over for them. With the upgrade to the all glass flight deck on the E-6, we're hearing the NAV will be obsolete. Since the MMA will have virtually the same system we are getting, I would hedge...

Fewer hours in the P-3 would suck

Corpus is not that bad, if you don't believe me, put E-6s down, get selected, and try Enid, OK for 7 months, believe me, 90% of you would be wishing you were back in Corpus. :icon_tong About the only good thing about Enid/Vance is that it actually gets a few months of winter, which I know most...

    Grades

Gonna vary squadron to squadron, selection to selection, just all depends on how the magic elf who pulls the final NSS out of his magic hat feels when he does it for YOU! Seriously, trying to covert that 1.XX score to an NSS is virtually impossible, as I found out almost the hard way. I...

Hey Smokescreen, I'll see ya at Tinker in about 10 months :spin_125: Don't worry too much about Vance, it's only 6 months and you can find some good in it. Dave, saw you gave a vote for the 738 MMA, hope you're right, I'd love to teach webmaster to fly a real jet a few years down the road!

Wow, so many to choose from: Aborted TO on a US Air DC-9 in Boston, the crazy drunk guy on an American DC-10 enroute San Juan-Boston (over the Bermuda Triangle no less), seeing the mountains of Alaska from 33000 while watching a Northwest 747 pass right underneath us, first flight of IFS (nearly...

    High Blood Pressure

150 is high but not quite as bad as some here have made it out to be. The info I have read is that BP can vary as much as 30 points over a very short period of time, hence why if you test high they test you over several days after that to determine BP. All the Navy and AF medical people I have...

Boeing To Find Out Friday Whether It Will Build New Sub Hunters

Question about selecting the potentially new 737 Maritime. Who exactly is going to train the new studs and on what platform? I can't see the AF taking in over 100 Navy studs per year on the T-1s, they are about maxed as is. I can't see the Navy using the T-44/TC-12 to train them, too big of a...
