    Fiscal Year Selection

Man it irritates me when people can't spel good. Anyway, since we're going to get off on pics of fantastic "form flying"...

Congrats to all the FY12 DH selectees!!

You couldn't be further from wrong regarding a "growth" community, which means anything that you don't need an LSO for. You need to hang out with more than pointy-nosed O-6s.

    Well done Key West Hookers...

Yeah, Ferris and Sticky were drooling a little during the CARQUAL as much as I was during the Ammo Off-load VERTREP. :)

    Helicopters vs. Jets

He was probably the guy that I had to instruct WHILE on the catapult. Once an IP, always an IP. ;)

    Well done Key West Hookers...

I liked the Margaritiaville patch, and the Helo Vs Jets (of course). I want the Blue and Yellow one. LOL.

    Well done Key West Hookers...

VT 7/9 did great on the recent HST/Key West Det CarQual. It was my only continuous carrier quals that I was fully qualified for, but it was a pleasure shooting the clown cars from the deck. It's good to be back, but I did enjoy the time. Nice patches too! :) ~d

4/3 custom built, north of Pace, FL. 15min from Whiting, 1 Acre lot. Great neighbors

It's my in-laws selling it. They were relocated due to a new job. Great custom built, granite, upgraded appliances, built in surround sound, etc. Amazing. Nice and quiet, 15 minutes from Whiting. Full Acre lot. http://www.homes.com/listing/128572927/2786_Segrest_Rd_PACE_FL_32571

Yeah, that's what I meant. Previous post edited. :) Good thing I was an HT instructor...lol. I need to get back flying, dammit.

Looking for a House or Realtor in San Diego Area

I like friends. They are good. However, if you are interested, USAA has the home buying program that rebates on closing fees (or puts money in your pocket). I like money sometimes better than friends. Just a thought.

    For the rotor heads.

Yeah, watching that rigid rotorhead at an airshow STILL gives me the chills. :)

Hopeful Marine looking for expert advice

One of my onwings was an Naval Aircrewman in the back of CH-46's. He did VERY well in the program once he commissioned. Something that I tell my sailors too: once you enlist, make sure you continue working on your degree. You can get a FREE (with TA) bachelors that is recognized by OCS from...

I Need a Coastie to Interpret This....

Joining in on the pile a little late, but I started API in the first week of June 2001, winged July 2002...We got through pretty quick back in the day (minus 3 days of no flying after 9/11). Props, I've heard, were going just as fast, minus the requirement to PCS out of PCola area. ~d

    When to graduate / commission?

Yeah, I'm going to pipe in here. It doesn't matter. After finishing College in 5 years, I had no idea what would await me. My last year looks like this: -Congrats! You made O-4. You'll promote in April if the last 9 years of your career is any indication. Sorry we can't get you an EP from...

What's it like for a pilot nearing the end of your 11-year (I think) committment?

    Define Majority. I've had 2 years out of my 10 deployed. That's 20% <> Majority. No. http://www.ussokcity.com/navyvsaf.html

    Marriage at Flight School

Most important benefits of medical coverage in case something happens. But be careful as some religions (Catholic, especially) may not marry you if you get married before being "Married before God." My fiancee and I got married after flight school. If you're a helo/P-3 bubba it'll only be a...

    Marriage at Flight School

This is a good learning point for the rest of your time in the 'Corps. You have something that COULD happen and you need to plan for that. Since there's a "rumor" out that it should be up to par, I'd go worse case scenario, and actually believe that you'll start API shortly after TBS...

ROTC Instructor Shore Tour (How-To) (Are you one?)

Then you are probably a perfect candidate, as even as a MIDN I wondered: "If the Navy was so great why are all my instructors getting out?" and it sounds like you won't necessarily have that attitude... From what I've heard, it's all dependent on the unit. It may be slack, it may not, but you...

ROTC Instructor Shore Tour (How-To) (Are you one?)

1 of 4 @ ROTC isn't the "production" tour that has been catching the DH's attention. Especially as a penguin, you'd be really rolling the dice based on your DH selection rate...I saw a few very good Shooters (P-3 NFOs AND Pilots) who got passed over in the last year, with the only 2 to be...

    I need serious help!!!!!!

Let's break this down, shall we? As a Helo bubba, that's a pretty sweet deal. Should, however, doesn't promise anything. I'm sorry. Jets are not located in the US Army...so you already sold out, might as well go BDCP. Go to YouTube, search for helicopters v. jets. It'll make you excited...

Shooter's Gallery (as in Catapult, not firearms)

Haha...:) When shooting from CAT 3, I always put my head down after the shot, just to make sure that the AIM-9's fins had an extra 4-in of clearance above my head. :)
  39. ChunksJR

Flying Warrant: A success or failure?

Red, good to see ya again. :) Your feelings are the same that "we" had in 2005 when this plan was rolled out. It represents the JO POV, which is a valid point, considering that Jim123 hit the similar feeling above: What we have is a "current" but not "proficient" crew that is usually flying a...

Flying Warrant: A success or failure?

Good question...my first reaction is that retreads are warfare qualified. Somewhere, along the way, they had to face the fire IRT the learning process and a board of peers for a gold pin. There's a sense of the big picture (operationally, strategically, tactically, etc) that retreads seemed to...

Buddy of mine did his tour at KU on his ROTC tour and did his MBA concurrently, paid for by KU dollars. Also have a good friend of mine who was a VT COC/NROTC instructor. Did the same from VT, paid for by VT dollars. If you want to do ROTC, you'll be a 1/1 or 1/2 anyway...who says you CAN'T...

Distractions. Period. The 4 or 5 warrants that we had were older, with significantly more family "issues" than your average snot-nosed nugget wannabe.

Now, since I will be pinning on in Sept, so I, unfortunately, WILL make $50 less than you do for BAH. :)

    Advantages for Enlisted vs officer?

Nicely done, Lurker. :) Hell no one needs flying CWOs. Trust me on that. The military needs flying CWOs for $$ reasons mostly. The rest of that DH/command competitive BS is a red herring (IMHO). Really? Pretty diverse interests, but where are the "shores" of Wyoming?
