I got my PPL with Wes Lupien's gig out at KOKH. He was running something similar with a Cherokee 6. I've got a couple hundred hours time up in that area. A fun job I would think and the 207 is not a bad ride.

The wrinkle in the fuselage reminds me of a Baron I saw at Manila (MNL) whilst dropping off a club plane for some maintenance work. A door had popped just as he rotated and the pilot panicked, slamming the plane back down nose gear first. Big wrinkle right at the leading edge. :eek:

I'm wondering if there is a way to lock the props (rotors?) in that position. I can see a gust moving an airfoil that large. :eek:

F-16s were produced by Lockheed Martin (General Dynamics before it merged with Lockheed) so I'm wondering why it's a Boeing QF-16? Also, I saw this funny thread about the QF-16 over at F-16.net. On Edit: After further reading, I see that Boeing is doing the mods... :rolleyes:

The thing that pisses me off about giving these guys the keys to a flying machine is then the CO expects me to crawl into the same aircraft and go flying with him or sign a Page 13 and change jobs. :mad: If his qualifications are suspect in any area, I would expect them to be suspect in ALL areas.

As someone who spent > 5 years in one squadron I can attest to seeing this happen. We had Skippers I would walk thru fire for and a couple I wouldn't piss on if they were on fire. A front office that doesn't trust it's officers and senior rates can't (and doesn't) expect them to function up to...

Wow! The more things change... By the time we transitioned from SP2H to P3-B the sniffer was gone from the P3. The focus then was also more on the nuke boats. I guess with the advent of microprocessors and digital processing the idea of a sniffer becomes more realistic. Upon more research it...

My Dad was at Kisarazu with the FasRon during the Korean War. I once asked him if he had ever flown the Gruman F7F and he replied that he had, once. Turns out the F7F there was the "Admiral's airplane" and he got his ass chewed for doing it.

Lot'sa changes from when I vacationed there in '67. The F-8 low passes were a lot lower than Flaps picture, and effin awesome. They actually got us a lttle down time as we had to hit the deck and quit doin' whatever it was we were doin' until the all-clear sounded.

So a 2P can't fill a 3P position if needed? Many moons ago the crews were pretty well kept together, on deployment. Back home, not so much... People go med down for various reasons on deployment and must be left behind for a mission. Drives skeds nuts. Ask me how I know... :mad:

The Retro Launcher depicted above is from a Canadian S2 variant. It was also installed in the SP2H, P-3A and B models. It utilized info from the air data system to launch a smoke marker directly opposite to the direction of flight at a velocity equal to the aircraft's speed over the ground...

A fun thing to do was catch someone asleep (that shouldn't be) in the lower bunk on the P-3B. If you could talk the PPC into firing the retro launcher the sleeper would usually bump their head on the upper bunk. Wonder how many current P-3 Bubbas here even know what the "Retro Launcher" was...

When I had mine done at Barbers Pt back in '78 the Flt Surgeon asked if I minded if some corpsmen observed. I had just been given a HUGE shot of valium. I didn't give a shit who or what observed or cut. :eek: Took me about 5 days to get back on the schedule.

Just saw it on the cable news here. The clip they ran did indeed show the exhaust from the turbine even as the rescuers were climbing into the cabin.

Interesting how the tail boom failed downward as quickly as it did as soon as the blade impacted something. Some gyroscopic forces, perhaps?

Was something turning up in front of it or was it just high winds? Either case, for want of a couple of dollars worth of rope or chains, a horse, errrr airplane, was lost. Dumbass. :(

This whole thread brings to mind the time (1950-ish) an F-80 landed at Hot Springs Airport due to some emergency. The whole danged town turned out to gawk and ooh and ahhh over it.

Ever been to Darwin? We refueled there once while supporting 7th Fleet ops out of Hobart. Place looks pretty desolate. Although liberty anywhere in Oz should be pretty good.

Two plane (C-121) trainer/FCF at Tachikawa mid 60's. They planned some air to air photos so a join up was in the works after the FCF was complete. We were the high airplane waiting on the trainer to complete field work. Our pilot calls the trainer, "Hey, we're at 17000, are you coming?" Reply...
