15 SEP2025 SNA/SNFO BOARD

the thing is, you can't reapply unless something in your packet changes. Luckily for me i have a third attempt remaining for the ASTB to get better scores then 6/9/7. But what if I didn't? Would I need to go get my masters? PPL? I don't think we can "keep trying" as much as I wish we could. I have always wondered, if someone with scores that are believed to be able to get a pro rec y should be able to reapply, because the boards go off available billets right. But I don't think that is the case, unless I am wrong. someone feel free to correct me.
I think it’s either big change or wait 6(?) months, though I don’t know if they’re just guidelines and are enforced at all; my recruiter said I don’t have to retest or anything he’ll just resubmit my packet for March in-house but sometimes recruiters don’t have the most accurate information either and are themselves kept in the dark from up top.. I’d imagine with a 58 8/8/7 it wouldn’t make too much sense to require a “big change” in order for me to be able to reapply…but regardless you are right, at some point waiting around to reapply time after another makes “keep trying” a bit impossible..

Can someone explain this to me? 4.0 is high sure, but obviously does not correlate to these astb scores. I am happy for you that you got the selection you wanted. But people with 9's PFAR got denied (including myself). I would really like to know what they are looking for when it comes to a package so myself and others can improve or do whatever we need to do to get in. I got a 52 6/9/7 3.21 gpa from a top 10 public school and no waivers, ex semi professional athlete for reference. (my recruiter did not even let me submit a package when I scored that low on my first attempt, maybe i would have gotten in..)
My best guess is that the ASTB is just one exam, while a high GPA shows consistency over time. I’ve heard flight school be described as finals week, every week. So maybe they know people with high GPA’s can maintain the consistency required to make it through the pipeline? I’m not sure… it does make me wonder why there wouldn’t be a greater emphasis on GPA, it seems like there’s an obsession with the ASTB for application strength.

All the scores are indicators of performance in flight school. AQR/GPA can show how hard and well you study and know material, while PFAR and FOFAR can indicate the stick skills you have for the job

True, I think what they were getting at is why someone with lower score but a 4.0 would get selected over a 3.2 but better ASTB scores. Not sure if there were other things involved, but if they were the same in other aspects then it would almost seem they weighed the gpa more. I’m probably looking too deeply into it, just bored waiting for the November board I guess lol

My recruiter said he’ll just process my resubmission in-house for March and I basically don’t gotta do anything.. I have 58(?) 8/8/7 and 3.02 GPA. Though in my case he said it’s weird that I got a Pro Rec N but was apparently not even at-board so his boss’s boss is inquiring for my specific case to figure out what’s going on…

Edit: I was I Sel kickback to regular board same as Corvette due to experimental weed usage that didn’t incur a waiver but Corvette got picked up so I don’t think that that was the problem, I got no other waivers or issues otherwise, probably my GPA is too low haha
How much experimental usage could be an issue, if one of the board members doesn't like the number that could be it.

My package didn’t have the best scores, but did have a good GPA. But I’m prior and have an 6 really solid reccomendations from O-4+. You just have to remember you have to show content of character not pure ability.

The board doesn't care about LORs unless you have a waiver issue, it is all about the odds of getting through flight school, the USN doesn't need to spend a year or so on a person just to have them fail out.

If the LOR doesn't have how long the person has known you it also isn't worth much, multiple board members told me anyone can blow smoke for 30 minutes to get a good LOR.

Hella random but right now I am getting ready for my day and have the TV as background noise on National Geographic and commercials for the new naval aviator show keep playing.

Like it just hits different being so close yet so far. Sorry end of borderline rant.
