I can get it prescribed at medical there or before I show up to OCS ?

Disclaimer: I didn't go through OCS, but I have gone through several other indoctrination-type training (including at least one with a much less flexible and/or available medical support infrastructure). However, others have already said here that once you get to OCS, you can go to medical and get whatever piece of paper you need to authorize you to pop pills. Given it's Navy medicine, I wouldn't be surprised if what they give you is less effective but requires you to take twice as many pills, but still, at least it's something to help with your lady problems.

I think if you search back, I think there was even someone who said they went to medical to get their birth control prescribed so they didn't have to come off of it.

Okay thanks :)

This has been helpful. Thanks, everyone! I'd like to confirm that this information stands - that I can go into medical and get something for my lady problems when I arrive at OCS. (I report 12 March).

Hello to all!

This is my first post so forgive me if I am touching on something that has already been discussed.

I am applying for SNA/NFO board that is in July. I graduated from Embry-Riddle with a B.S. in Aeronautics GPA 2.8 and I also hold a private pilot license with instrument rating. I am in the process of studying for the ASTB (Scheduled 17 March). Thank goodness for all of the tips/tricks & study aides on here. I feel a lot more confident as the date gets closer.

I know the biggest hump is to get through taking this test, but I was also wondering has anybody heard about rules wearing your natural hair while going through OCS? And if anyone has natural hair what products did you bring to keep your hair within standards?

I just found this website that has pictures of a lot of regulation hairstyles. I'm pretty sure for natural hair there is a bulk rule. Your hair can't exceed two inches from your scalp. Here's the link: http://www.navy.mil/ah_online/um/femalehair.html

Not sure how things differ, but when I was in bootcamp a few years ago no one had time during weekday hygiene. That said, there was a lot of threading of eyebrows, chins, and mustaches going on during Sunday hygiene when people had time for that sort of grooming. If you have time chances are no one else will know or care how you choose to groom yourself so long as you end up in regs and the bathroom is clean when you're done. OCS could be different, but I highly doubt it.

I'm a bit embarrassed to ask this, but if a woman needs to shave her facial hair will they allow it?

Have you tried facial waxing? Not sure how long it'll last you but probably enough through one week's time before you can find time to shave again.

Hi there! I don’t think this has been asked yet, but I’m looking for maybe some ladies who have been through OCS with the new regulations where you don’t have to cut your hair. I’m just curious what you went with. Sock bun, twist bun, or just chop it and be done?

And follow up, if you have any pics or videos of something you did that worked well, I'd be grateful if you shared.

I haven’t gone through yet, but I’ve been practicing and have my plan down.

I have medium-long naturally curly hair. For every day and PT wear, I’m planning on doing a twist bun. I’ve practiced getting it down quickly, and have also been practicing sleeping with it done so it’s ready for PT. I feel a lot better after practicing a few times, definitely recommend it.

For inspections, I’m going to do the sock bun just because it’s so easy, and looks nicer. I’ve found success twisting the ends around the bun.

Don’t chop your hair if you’re going to just grow it out again... I think it’s worth it to figure out how to manage it, so later on you know what to do.

My thoughts too, in terms of cuttting it, but in my own experimentation, I have too much thick hair for a decent sock bun that’s within regs and the twist is okay, but tends to have bits come out and takes A LOT of pins, not to mention it’s often lopsided. :/

ArmyHair is an amazing YouTube channel that has a number of bun instruction videos I've found to be really helpful for a variety of hair types. You guys, and any female browsing this thread in the future, might find it helpful too, so I thought I'd share.
