Hey Everyone, New IRR member here, just transferred over from SELRES. Do I understand correctly that I am supposed to wait for PERS to send me the annual screening form? Or should I initiate? Thanks in advance for your help! Best, J

USN FY18 LIST OF APPROVED CORRESPONDENCE COURSES FOR AWARDING OF NON-PAY RETIREMENT POINTS

Can't say I blame you. I need 8 (or is it 10?) commissioned years to get the officer retirement I've worked towards all these years, so I need to stick around for 24 (or is it 26?) years. I used to say I would stay Reserve until I hit 60, but now I'm not so sure about that.

    What are you reading?

For those of you who are into alternative history and/or WWII, I recommend the following: Fox on the Rhine by Douglas Niles and Michael Dobson. While not fine literature, I find it difficult to put down. Von Stauffenberg & crew succeed in their bid to assassinate Hitler, inadvertently setting...

USN FY18 LIST OF APPROVED CORRESPONDENCE COURSES FOR AWARDING OF NON-PAY RETIREMENT POINTS

All part of The Plan. Cut billets where you can, drive people out whenever possible, keep buying expensive new systems. I see it happening across the board in DoD, from (relatively) little things like correspondence courses to the Blended Retirement System. Cut enough corners and pretty...

USN FY18 LIST OF APPROVED CORRESPONDENCE COURSES FOR AWARDING OF NON-PAY RETIREMENT POINTS

The ability for RC personnel to receive retirement points for voluntary completion of correspondence courses is an important aspect of the Navy's Total Force Continuum of Service concept. It enables the Navy to retain personnel with strategically valuable skills, expands the flexible service...

    MAJOR IRR Policy Change...

ALCON, Some updates based on my conversations with Millington over the past few days. All of these points apply to IRR officers in the ASP. - The new guidance does NOT apply to anyone who commissioned from the Blue to Gold program. This came straight from CAPT Howell and PERS-93. - The new...

VTU - How to manage a Navy Reserve VTU career while living overseas?

Since I just transferred into the IRR (four days before they signed off on the new rules, in fact) I called Millington with my questions. Bottom line, they are thinning the herd of IRR types who can't/won't support Navy missions. This is part of a larger downsizing trend that we have seen over...

O2 reservist receiving JPME 1 acquired from federal civilian admittance to NWC CDE?

I think that submitting for the points is always worth a shot. However ... based on what I have seen in my relatively short time with USNR as a SELRES, it is challenging -- not to say impossible -- to get full credit for correspondence courses. The barracks lawyer in me asks: if you try to...

O2 reservist receiving JPME 1 acquired from federal civilian admittance to NWC CDE?

Looks like you got some pretty solid responses here, but FWIW I am in almost your situation exactly. I would not recommend communicating directly with NWC about your unique situation. Just take your courses as a civilian and file the certificates away until you make LT. Wait a few months and...

    Albumin?

I Googled that and found this: Trace simply means that the amount of albumin (which is the protein that the test looks for) is quite low and just above the upper limit of detection ability. Having trace albumin in your urine means that your kidneys are abnormally spilling a tiny amount of...

    Albumin?

Hey RUFiO, We had a guy come through MEPS about a million years ago with albumin in his urine. The corpsmen fussed about it but the doc signed off and he made it through OK. If I remember right, albumin is a protein and healthy kidneys don't let albumin into the urine. What was your...

The Great Cats and Dogs on Aircraft Carriers Thread . . . with F-16 insanity!

ALCON, I am not an aviator (not even close) but I found this old thread pretty interesting. As a young Marine stationed at MCAS El Toro, I remember being regaled by the (true!) story of LCpl Foote and the stolen A-4 Skyhawk, and the (apocryphal, I think) tale of the C-130 mechanic who launched...

Question about Enlisting in Reserve with PoliSci BA

Question about Enlisting in Reserve with PoliSci BA

Having gone through the DCO process for intel in 2013, I have two anecdotal (but potentially useful) observations to share that echo NavyOffRec's post. - The ones who made it had prior enlisted intel experience; the more, the better. - The board was tougher on prior enlisted Navy than they were...

Question about Enlisting in Reserve with PoliSci BA

mibny, First of all, thank you for your interest in serving. Most Americans can't be bothered to wear the cloth of their country and many would run like rabbits if called upon to do so. Your desire to serve sets you apart from the herd. Good on you! I enlisted in the Marine Corps at the age...

How to "reinstate" an officer commission

chrispaul, My first question would be: what were the circumstances of your departure? Did you resign your commission or just leave after meeting your obligations? I know the MILPERSMAN 1920-190 is a good place to start and would echo previous recommendations that you work with a recruiter...

Active USMC to Reserve Intel DCO

Without getting too specific ... While the extra money and better retirement are great incentives, they should never be the driving force behind the quest for those butter bars. And while the money motive will be enough to get such people through the DCO process, NIOBC, etc. their true colors...

Active USMC to Reserve Intel DCO

I got a lot of great mentorship from a senior LCDR who shook his head over how difficult the process had become when I started my packet in 2011. My first attempt was successful with the exception of the lost DD-214, but my recruiter (and his successor) worked with Millington to get everything...
  43. jason0231

Active USMC to Reserve Intel DCO

Absolutely. The DCO boarding process is complex and deeply flawed. Hard copy packets are presented to the board and if a single sheet of paper is missing or incorrect, the whole packet gets trashed. In my case, one of my DD-214s went missing between my recruiter's office and the board...

Gouge for Active duty for over 30 days as a Federal Employee?
