    OCS Flight Physical

j.petrovics, I don't know the details about overcorrection, but I am pretty sure your vision already falls within the acceptable range (as long as it's fully correctable). Why risk losing that by getting expensive surgery?

I doubt it. You don't officially get a NAMI clearance until- no joke- a matter of days before you graduate OCS. Flight doc has to look you over at OCS. I know it sucks, but I don't think you can get any solid assurance that you'll be green-lighted for SNA until you're ready to graduate. Fortunes...

Not sure what to tell you. But in my experience (which was very recent), the folks in Newport and Pcola are very reasonable, and want you to get the slot you've worked hard to earn. You'll probably get some grey hairs along the way, but stay positive. One of my OCS buddies was NPQ'd for Pilot...

I'm fairly certain they test your corrected vision with one of those flip-flop lens machines. And yes, they will give you new glasses. But unless you want to wear those awful contraceptive glasses they issue for the rest of your life, you'll want to get new ones eventually anyway.

    Paperwork to OCS

Hi all, I'm (finally) heading to Newport on 27 Nov. As I'm sure many of you have, I've been trolling the internets for months trying to eek out every last drop of credible gouge I can. But one thing that I find confusing is that the OCS website...

So do they actually let you leave base and visit family/friends less than three weeks after getting your head shaved?

I'm not sure either, but it really doesn't make any sense to test people uncorrected. Your brain can only generate a 3D image if it has two clear images from your eyes. Without good vision, you simply won't have good depth perception.

Post-PRK astigmatism, Autorefractor vs. Eye Doc...

How did this turn out for you? Did you pass your physical and get into flight school? I'm in a similar situation- slight refractive error post-PRK. OCS Dec 2011.

As I understand it, if you fail your physical, you will be redesignated as SNFO or something else. It's up to YOU if you want to bail at that point. If you really want to become an Ensign, I have a hard time believing they would just send you home. The guys who go home are guys like me- the ones...

    OCS Flight Physical

Really? It happens within a few days of arrival at OCS? Point duly taken. However, I'm still well within the +3.00/-1.50 error and +/-1.00 astigmatism prescribed by NOMI for SNAs (document attached), so it's really a question of whether or not the Navy is exceeding its own standards to reduce...

    OCS Flight Physical

Hi, I've been digging through these forums trying to find some info about the flight physical taken during OCS, but most of what I find seems to be outdated or just speculation. Here's the situation- I'm 23, pro-rec'd as a pilot, and shipping to Newport on December 4, 2011. Passed through MEPS...
