Doing away with IFS?

I mean both. During the brief he stated very clearly that API was no longer a thing, and I think that was referring to how IFS was structured with academics separate. Whether or not this new curriculum is referred to as “API” out of familiarity is another thing.

IFS is done, but preliminary flying in a Cessna is still going to happen via NIFE.

So it's still a thing, they just changed the name, and overhauled the syllabus.
Before about the mid-1990s it was called "preflight." Dunno if that was the proper name or if it was an informal name.

I was really hoping for an acronym that would either be a naughty word- or maybe just make you think of something else while being subtle about it.

And, let's be honest, you can call it whatever you want, but it's still just pre-flight introductory aviation training with some light survival training sprinkled in.

But someone got a FITREP bullet for being #Disruptive and #Innovative in the aviation training space. I bet their distinctive accomplishments, unrelenting perseverance, and steadfast devotion to duty reflected credit upon him (or her) and were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service . . . at least according to their end-of-tour award citation.

I totally forgot about that. I had just checked into the HITU and got a lengthy delay in progress...but I was a brand new Dad and had just bought a house with a pool. Good times in deed!

After the infamous hailstorm in 2005, the average weight crept up a little bit- some of the aircraft got airframe repairs in the form of doublers, riveted and bonded to skins and battery doors, to fix hailstone dents.

My memory of it was that I was driving to Lowe's in the southern end of the county, where only baby hail fell. I was like is that what I think it is?? I called up one of my friends and told him some hail was probably headed his way in Milton and he might want to move his nice truck into the garage. His reply was that he was on leave in North Carolina getting ready to go fishing, and said truck was safe and sound there with him. Ha!

Boy oh boy, weren't all of us in for a surprise come come Monday morning, "The flight schedule is canceled and there is an AOM."

A few months later on the way back from a hurrevac, I made an unscheduled stop at an out of the way airport (transmission chip light). There was an EMS base there with a couple of aircraft and we chatted them up. The mechanic mentioned offhand that it was hard to find replacement windshields for Bell helicopters lately. Uh yeah about that, I think I might know why...

I had just finished VTs. Delayed me by a few months in starting HTs. C Pool was rough.

We didn't get Bladerunner patches as IUT's...I was in the HITU for about 4-5 months as an instructor prior to departing active duty, but I went terminal for 90 days...I don't think I ever got a Bladerunner patch.

This sounds like a potential NAM bullet opportunity for a fledgling IUT :)

I remember watching the radar image on ADDS when I was trying to figure out what was going on, and it really was just this freak Whiting Field-sized supercell that hit the base dead-on. Big red blob . . .

Just finished the academics phase of NIFE. Three weeks wasn't fun for academics but it wasn't too hard. We had it easier for stuff like Aero but harder for Nav and Weather.

Gonna be flying Cessna's next with SkyWarrior. IFS/API's last class also graduated today.

As for class attrition, we started with 39? and ended with 30.

edit: forgot to mention there will be no solo's.
