Have you figured out a sunshade for that RV canopy for when you're parked outside? Just curious. I figure somebody must make them, third party/aftermarket, and I figure there are also free plans somewhere that start with a roll of shiny bubble wrap insulation from Home Depot (which is how I made the sunshade for my airport car...).

Did you ever think about CG Auxiliary? Get someone to pay for your gas? I don't live anywhere near the water, but seems like an interesting thing to do.

Koger Sunshades. They are made for the RV-8 (and other models). Just like fancy ones...about $175 as I recall.

There are some available. I don’t know if you can see it well but Mark has one in his (the guy I’m flying off). I haven’t really needed one. I keep it Hangared except when fueling and on a XC flight. If it’s too hot then I just don’t fly. I’m flying for fun and too hot ain’t fun.

Not sure which of us you’re asking the question. But gas is fairly cheap and I can really lean back to about 6.4 gallons an hour. I burn about 10 doing aerobatics.. If gas prices is your problem, maybe you shouldn’t own a plane.

Asking it of everybody, I guess. You are basically a CG pilot "on orders" while you are doing CG missions, get to fly into military bases, go look for sinking boats, etc.

I'd never heard of the CG aviation auxiliary until the other day.

It is really a pretty good deal.

Does that give you state aircraft status while on a CG mission so you can thumb your nose at the FAA inspector wanting to ramp check you?

Then it would be a really good deal....
It is considered a CG aircraft while on mission.

So do you have a CG call sign with ATC or an N number. If you have an N number the FAA still owns you

Yes it is and they get a CG call sign. It works the same for CAP except that own all their aircraft. I have a friend who lost his airplane in a divorce and now flies basically free four times a week by flying with CAP. As for CG AuxAir, I know some districts are very active and others never call.
