It would be hilarious if Elon is just setting an elaborate trap (with an empty factory) for some nosy county official to enter private property without a search warrant, and then he has his security detain them and/or lawyers sue them.
For a guy who's an agent of the government you have some really wacky perspectives on governance.

I don’t think an unelected county health supervisor should be able to order businesses to close.

What about restaurants that fail health inspection?

Another thought, CA's state of emergency probably "allows" them to do a lot of things that might not apply in more normal times. I don't necessarily agree with it either, but there it is.

Hey, just because you're paranoid doesn't necessarily mean they AREN'T actually out to get you.

That’s better, but it’s pretty clear that “disaster” and “emergency” are being a little broadly interpreted. Petty tyrants all around the country need to face consequences for their actions.
Im guessing that the truth lies somewhere between "petty tyrants", "terrified local government", and "out of their depth local government."

I agree. But I don’t care if they overstepped because they had an ulterior motive or because they were incompetent. The damage is real.

I think there are a few rubs here:
  1. elected versus unelected making the decision
  2. decision is or isn’t IAW state constitution and US Consititution
  3. emergency powers overreach, or against precedent

#2 above is particularly unaddressed. One state threatened to rescind a hairdresser’s operating license and fine her hundreds of dollars if she cut her own kid’s hair in her own house. That is f*cking nuts and not supported by any law or the Constitution. Imagine if some “authority” tried to tell the hairdresser she wasn’t allowed to cut her spouse’s hair in their own private bedroom during a sex game. Think about it.

  1. They work for elected officials and are executing elected officials' intent. The Mayor (or whatever) doesn't have to do everything and can use his staff and supporting agencies to execute the vision. If what's happening isn't in line with what the locals want from their local government then they are free to boot them out next election and reshape the agencies. If what is happening there is supported by the locals and not by you (assuming you're not local) then it doesn't matter (unless you're a Tesla stockholder) because you don't get a say.
  2. I doubt most constitutions have pandemic rules. But they have leeway for officials to execute policy as needed in light of available data. US Govt, State, and lots of local govts said "stay home." I'd imagine if challenged in court the courts would rule in favor of the officials as acting within their constitutional purview. You're welcome to your opinion on it, but as to whether or not it's ACTUALLY overreach or illegal then that will be up to the courts.
  3. There's not a lot of precedent for a pandemic. Everyone is making it up as they go along.

As to your repeated hairdresser example, it sounds like a one off. How many other times has this happened? Or are you just focusing on one example that's an outlier and using that to derive your conclusion? Think about it.
