Anybody else make their own alcohol?

I got into winemaking couple of years ago. About $150.00 to get the minimum amount of stuff, then use the kits. A $90 kit = 6 gallons = 30 bottles = about $3/bottle of surprisingly decent wine.

WAY easier than beer making.

Moving away from kits, I tried to make Banana wine. It was ferocious, but a fun project.

Made Blueberry Wine. It is best when mixed 50/50 with cheap Prosecco, but definitely driveway drinking palatable. I like it.

"It passed the first test, I didn't go blind."

Back in flight school I looked at what it would take to make my own still. Eventually figured there are cheaper ways to poison myself.

Several years ago I helped my younger brother make one. It was based on an ordinary fishtank heater (you take the heater apart and bend the spring through trial and error until it's regulating in a range more suitable for distillation than keeping tropical fish comfy) and the rest of the hardware included a couple of plastic buckets and assorted hoses. It turned out pretty well and he made a small batch, about 80 proof on a hygrometer, that tasted like how I imagine paint thinner does... but after letting it sit for a couple of years then it was surprisingly palatable. Nothing special about the aging process- he'd bottled the stuff in green glass bottles with rubber stops and given them out for Christmas. I left mine in my mother's cupboard and I missed family Christmas the following year for a deployment. Two years later I was like, "You didn't pour that out or anything, did you?" "Nope, it's safe and sound right where you left it." "Mom, I should tell you I love you more often." :D

Broke quarantine to hike in the Superstition Mountains
I realize it's about 500 miles away, but I was secretly hoping for the Vasquez Rocks.*

(Best part of the clip starts at about 2:20)

* edit: only climbing them, not jumping off

Not that famous or recognizable. We do have a fortune of gold though (Lost Dutchman Mine) just waiting to be found.

Aviation is a delicious cocktail, but a pain in the ass if only because you have to buy an entire 750ml bottle of aforementioned Creme de Violette (bright purple liqueur) for a cocktail that requires, if memory serves, 1/8 of an oz. I have had a very very full bottle on my bar for the better part of a decade.

Another one I like is Rips in Bowie. Good place to stop to pick up drinks on the way to visit friends in ANP.

Excellent place for crab cakes and potato skins, as a bonus the decor other than the bar hasn't changed much in 40 years either.

Many thanks to @ChuckMK23 for donating one of his super beat down CWU-36/P jackets so that I could give it the old college try and attempt to patch my semi super beat down CWU-36/P jacket...via fabric glue and a fabric cutout from Chuck’s donor jacket.

For the record, I had wiped out at the local skatepark and had burned a friction hole in the right sleeve...see patch job below which is indicated by an official Skilcraft - U.S. Government pen...

Happy it went to a good cause! You can also cannibalize the wrist cuffs and waist when the time comes.

Looks like a good spot for a hand-sewn helnonmonkspankron patch.
