FY 20 IWC DCO Board

Just got word I am attending the FT. Dix interviews for CW/IP Dec 7/8 date/time TBD. I have the OIC interview via video/tele today or tomorrow, awaiting info for that. The next board isn't until March correct?

Anyone a drilling reservist and done an interview over the drill weekend? I am trying to sort out whether this is official reserve business or if I should reschedule my drills.

Just sharing a mistake I had made during the interviewing process so others don't make it. When it came down to the OIC interviewing part I had assumed that the OIC was going to call me at my given time slot since I wasn't given a phone number to call. Be sure to check with your OR to see if you need a number to call or whether you should be expecting one.

As for your drill and your phone interview, I would discuss it with your CoC and just set aside time for your interview. The interview should probably be around 30 minutes. I would think your command would be supportive since your CO/OIC probably endorsed you for your package.

That is a good bit of insight. I wouldn't have known that but it makes sense.

I started that discussion with my CoC but they weren't entirely sure since it's about 4 hours drive away from my location. I will contact the Ft. Dix NOSC too. Thanks for the insight.

Talk to your Chain about resked'ing two periods. No CO should reasonably deny a process that contributes to their overall FITREP. It's only a couple hours, but takes about the whole day, depending on how many other applicants are there at the same time.

SDB is the appropriate military uniform for this activity. Look sharp, and practice good 'clock management'!

Next board is tentatively scheduled for 23-27 March 2020.

Concur with OP. You should absolutely RESKED for this process to ensure you are covered while driving there, during interview, and driving home. If your CoC will not allow you to use your paid drills, I would recommend RESKED'ing your paid drills to some other date they are amicable with, and then put in for ATP non-pay additional drill (2 periods). You will not get paid, but you will be covered from a points and "liability" perspective.

On top of resked'ing I would advise anyone who is able to put in a telework package. Talk to your NOSC's Respay and Manpower for the forms and get the signatures from your CO. It comes in very nicely when some unavoidable conflict comes up and you can't make your regularly scheduled drill weekend.

Worked with my CoC and I'll be mustered for drill by the NOSC.

I just met with one of my mentor's this morning and his only concerns are my 12 years active duty time and my total combined service time. He said I should have an answer for why I left at 12 years and we touched on why I didn't make Chief yet. I have 15 years service to date and he was worried about whether I can be mobilized still or not.

Lastly, we talked about getting my head focused on leadership, global scope and why I am qualified.

I received my FINSEL on Tuesday dated 02 Dec 19. It states to expect COMDOCs within approximately 10 days.

I’m deeply connected to the Navy and will be trying to have a small ceremony that includes my retired Master Chief father and a few important friends that are AD or retired officers. If for no other reason than to gather together and say thanks.

Congrats! Did you get your FINSEL after turning in your conditional release? Do you know what your drop dead date to commission is? My conditional release says I have until the end of June for it to be valid and I'm wondering if my oath will have the same deadline as well.

I have no prior service, so I can’t answer that.

My OR did indicate that he thinks the standard is three months to commission on the paperwork. He did caveat that in that there is no guarantee.

I forgot to message you back, but seeing as how it may benefit others:

My FINSEL was dated November 14th and had that same blurb to expect the COMDOCs in approximately 10 days. My OR contacted me shortly after saying it was ready and I took the Oath on November 26th. The documents stated the need to take the oath within 90 days (it gave a specific date but it was 90 days from the FINSEL letter) and it also showed my date of rank/grade as November 18th.

I didn't require a conditional release form but I do know that a person in my region who got selected is currently deployed, so she will have to wait until she returns from that before taking the oath. Also, my OR sent my documentation showing I didn't require a conditional release along with the reserve agreement saying those needed to be turned in prior to the receiving the FINSEL. That being said, my OR didn't contact me when the FINSEL came in, he waited until the oath was ready, which i personally appreciated. When I left the USMC IRR and went to the Army, I needed a conditional release form filled out and was given a time frame to join the Army and if it didn't happen, I would revert back to USMC IRR. Those dates didn't match up, so that would tell me your June time frame is not going to reflect your date of commission, just a form stating you have until June to get commissioned.

As UpcountryDegent stated, great name by the way, no two timelines will be the same it seems. My OR said that the ready reserve agreement and other documents being turned in after selection is the determining factor as to when you will get your COMDOCS. That stuff all goes to get processed and they get to the documentation as it comes in, so like a first come, first served basis.

My COMDOCSs already came in. Very surprised. I’m hoping to commission in a small ceremony early next month to allow people to come in.

I already have an active clearance, so that was not a concern for me.

yeha, my RAA was taken care of a couple weeks ago, but my COMDOCS (and I'm assuming FINSEL as well) is being held up waiting for my clearance to go through

Commdocs and FINSEL is not dependent on a clearance to come through. New accessions could wait 9-24 mos on a clearance. I dont think any of the initial training even requires a TS, a temp secret may suffice. The only requirement on getting on the commissioning list is to have a clearance started officially with new prints. Many do this at MEPS but i had to go to my recruiters office after selection because my prints were not within the date range.

Date expectations to not fret at all...
Commission within 3 months of board
Gain within 6 months.

I was selected at a 15SEP board and was gained around 15FEB basically 5 months
