I see AW's resident Art 88 barracks lawyer is back on the warpath...?
And yet, there is a very good chance Article 88 will be the end of this Admiral.

I mention Article 88 to show the hypocrisy of those on here who are trying to claim the moral and integrity high ground over any Trump supporter. Their lack of integrity as serving officers constantly and profusely dispersing their Commander in Chief publicly removes all their credibility.

Well this seems to have been blown out of proportion... From the Washington Post:

“I work at the pleasure of the president,” Spencer said, denying reports that he has threatened to resign. “I do not interpret what the president does. I do what he says.”

“if the president requests a stop in the process, the process stops. Good order and discipline is also obeying the orders of the president.”

Spencer did not speak directly to the NBC account, but he said “I haven’t spoken to anyone” about any thoughts of resigning. Asked if Green had threatened to resign, he said, “No, not at all . . . . He has not.”

Navy chief says he would follow Trump’s instructions on Navy SEAL

“if the president requests a stop in the process, the process stops. Good order and discipline is also obeying the orders of the president.”

I actually liked the whole paragraph there, as most the news agencies have emphasized the tweet piece with regard to the need for formality with issues like these. From the same article:

"A tweet, Spencer said, is not an order. 'I need a formal order,' he said. But 'if the president requests a stop in the process, the process stops. Good order and discipline is also obeying the orders of the president.'"

I think that isn't without warrant either. Since day one of OEF/OIF/Whatever the hell we're doing in Libya is called/Our little Syria adventure/etc. NSW and SOCOM as a whole have been at the absolute forefront with more of their time spent in the tall grass than at home. It's why they have had retention problems over the last two or three years. It's also colored the way they look at the world. Those guys have seen some real shit and lived around it for years. We select NSW operators to have a killer edge, train and hone that edge, deploy them for years on end in high intensity conflict, and then expect them to act like saints. Having these dudes under constant exposure to warfare has undoubtedly shifted their moral compasses in the same manner that many of our boys who came back from the trenches of WWI had theirs shifted.

Is it justification for what they may have done? No. But the moral outrage many are experiencing over this doesn't seem justified either. We're in the middle of a war and we expect these guys to be stone cold killers and ruthless on the battlefield. Don't be surprised when they do ruthless, cold blooded things.
You are falling into the civilian troupe of the “broken warrior”. Shouldn’t we expect the elite to also be professional?

I'm hesitant to embrace"broken warrior" culture because it's a tough line to draw. If a seasoned operator raped somebody, people probably wouldn't be defending them. Murder of the unwarranted variety is perhaps colored so similarly to killing of the prescribed, expected variety that the gradient is smooth enough to cause debate.

Yes, but everybody has their breaking point and needs R&R before they get to that point.

I agree with what you're saying. When someone says TYFYS for the hundredth time, what I would really like is for them to have their sons and daughters join the service, for them to pay attention to world events, and most of all for them to develop an informed opinion and to actively communicate that opinion with their elected officials!

Agree with all but the first item there. Some one will always need to do this job, but no one should feel obliged to want their kids to serve. I for one would prefer my kids find another profession. There are many ways our kids can contribute to society that don't involve putting life, limb or soul at risk. But that'll be up to them.

I should have phrased that "encourage your sons and daughters to join the service" (or 'strongly' encourage) rather than "have..." (which implies coercion).
