Why is it so hard to get anything added into a OMPF?

When I was on active duty it may have taken a while, but it wasn't a significant problem to get designation letters, higher education, or anything else updated into my OMPF.

As a reservist? That only seems to apply to the officer photograph sheet.

I have tried for years to get missing designation letters, civilian, and NPS education added into my record with the appropriate offices. The ones that reply usually say something like xxx arbitrary reserve system is OOC, this is supposed to be shifting to NSIPS, no ETR. Even correspondence PERS has sent to me regarding things like redesignation and transfer from S-2 to SELRES which say "Copy to OMPF" at the bottom haven't gotten in.

Unfortunately (for the board) this is more I have to document in a letter to my next promotion board.

I no kidding had printed my LTB out and signed it when I got an email from PERS-whoever saying words to the effect of “sorry for the delay, but we’ve just got your JPME letter from four months ago added.” Awesome. Time to print and scan another copy with an Enclosure (2) . . .

They've added my AQD for JPME, my SSC for education, but neither has documents posted into my record, and the education never made it onto my ODC.

The bulletproof method is to travel to Millington and walk in with all your records to make absolutely sure nothing goes wrong. When I did that, the personnel there were very helpful and gave me a detailed briefing so I could assist my unit. I ended up submitting corrected records for a number of the reservists and active duty at TW-5 back in the day.

The reserve admin guide is BUPERSINST 1001.39F (Administration Procedures for Naval Reservists). You will probably want to start with Chapter 9 (Navy Officer Occupational Classification System). Good luck.

In what world is this the way it should be done?! Yeah, let me spend a few hundred $’s to travel to Tennessee to make sure a few pieces of paper that are suppose to be in your record to make sure they actually show up there. Talk about fucked up.

NBD, let me just go check with the Museum of Flight down at Boeing Field, and see if they'll let me borrow their Prowler for a quick weekend XC to Tennessee . . .

. . .

. . .

. . .

. . . oh, yeah. It doesn't work anymore, I'm way out of NATOPS qual, and that's only slightly less realistic than a personal trip to Millington before a board by other means of travel.

The only way to ensure your record is updated is to do it yourself. Do not count on or trust the NOSC to do anything. Honestly. I even take it upon myself to FedEx peoples' EVALs and FITREPs to PERS just to ensure they arrive.

Need a letter drafted? Do it yourself and walk it around for signature.
Need an award entered into NSIPS? Walk it to the PS and physically watch them enter it into NSIPS then mail it to the appropriate location yourself.

Along these lines - I need to add some AQD's from my civilian qualifications and looking at the PERS-911 website it appears I need to snail mail everything in a formal way. Anyone gone through that process before? It took about 7 months to get my point records updated, should I expect the same for AQD update?

Your OCM should be able to update your record. Read the MILPERSMAN about requesting AQDs and how to submit + include the documentation.

I've been trying for well over a year to get get all of my medals added. Since I live in Memphis, I figured I could just drive across town to Millington to show the originals and leave copies. Well, not the case. I was told that after they're added to NDAWS, the Navy Department Awards Web Service, which took a little bit of time itself, I had to mail them to PERS. Nope, couldn't bring them over...had to mail them.

Just for S&Gs, I just took a peek at my OSR/PSR right now and they're still not added. I mailed them in October of last year. Ironically, they'are all listed in my DD-214 from when I separated from active duty...which is in my OMPF.

NDAWS is an opiate for the masses, created to make people think their awards were going somewhere, but with no actual outcome. I think it was created by a YN Master Chief to keep junior PSes busy.

Same boat.
Awards not in there.

I give up at this point. Don’t think it matters much

@snake020

Any info on how your JPME AQD got added?

I followed the JPME gouge on Bupers on emailing the RC JQS Mgr. He did his part of updating in JMIS and email me that he forwarded to PERS 911 to update the OSR.

That was several moons ago...lol! I emailed him again to follow up, and he replied he resent my info again to PERS.

I did notice my education section of the OSR got updated with NWC Nonresident, but still no "JPME I" in the AQD block.

I guess I can try snail mail to PERS 911...

Are you still in? When I came over from the USMC all of my awards with the exception of 2 were added and I can view in NSIPS. The other 2 needed to get sent to PERS and was initiated sometime last July and I submitted again in September. I still cannot view them in NDAWS and they are not listed on my USMC record. I have another set of ribbons I ordered without these. How long should I give them before resubmitting?
