Tips:
  • Strongly recommend going to a civilian ophthalmologist to see if you're even qualified and to not waste your time.
  • If you fail DP at MEPS (which most likely will happen), it is not over by any means. My recruiter is letting me take the vision portion of a flight physical by a flight doc. A flight physical allows you to take all three tests. So if you fail the AFVT, you can ask for the Randot test (wear glasses and look at a book) which is a lot easier. You can also do vision therapy to improve DP. Remember, no civilian waivers are accepted for failing DP.
  • Get glasses if you are borderline 20/20 and under 20/40. You need to get all the letters right to pass the vision acuity portion of the flight physical.
  • In case you are concerned with the anthropometric standards:
    • Sitting Height: Bottom of buttocks to top of head
    • Buttock Knee Length: Back of butt to front of knees
    • Thump-Tip Reach FR: Stand in corner, put arm out. Measure from back wall to the tip of right thumb.

Eh? I would be wary of making that claim.

unless things have changed recently, a good "oh by the way" is be prepared to run this on a loose wood chip trail with slight rising and falling terrain with sharp 180 degree turns. That catches alot of people by surprise
I would have phrased that as "it makes it obvious which people haven't gone for a run in weeks or months."

overall of all the applicants I put through MEPS few of them failed DP, the ones that frequently would go to a civilian doc for the most part failed that test too, of course I worked with someone that worked diligently to get their candidates retested, and nearly all ended up not passing the flight physicals at OCS anyway.

It is rare to be able to get examined by a USN flight doc, those that are in FL or close to it can often get a NAMI physical as part of what NAMI does is to qualify people for SNA, other with other USN MTF it is not their job to qualify people for SNA so often they will not agree to conduct an exam.

When I went thru API in 1994, it was the obstacle course that got folks.. Do they not do that any more?

No, they stopped making it count in about ‘98 or so and it isn’t even there anymore, I think it got washed away by one of the later hurricanes.
