Hey I am also in this class and awaiting FINSEL. Very nerve-racking! I looked up CANTRACS info and it looks like our projected graduation is JAN19, and we have a 15 week class instead of 13 weeks. Holiday stand down will be interesting there.

Does anyone have any insight on how holiday stand down works? Are visitors allowed? Do we get liberty or are we stuck twiddling our thumbs around base in the winter?

The last I read, there are two different holiday stand-down periods. Those that don't take leave would be doing administrative duties, from my understanding. This link is outdated, but I imagine it still works somewhat similarly. Hope that helps! http://www.ocs.navy.mil/pdfs/Christmas_Liberty_Guide_rev.pdf

I can give a little insight as I went through OCS OCT 16'- JAN 17'.

Essentially Thanksgiving was a long weekend and we were given on base liberty to head over to the mwr facility and hangout. I believe some families came in and were allowed to meet up on base with their SM. Christmas was a different story, we were given two different leave periods. Half of the class had to take one, the other half had to take the other. When you weren't on leave you were still fair game to stand watch, still did chow hall procedures etc....My class became candios right after the break but we also started a week or so after your projected date. With this being said you will have your candio billet and will be doing those jobs while your peers are on leave and vice versa.

As far as liberty goes, you will have limited liberty during those periods, esp Christmas. I went on the first leave period and came back the day after christmas (by 0700 on the 26th), and I remember going out on new years and having some beers out on the town, and spending alot of time watching movies at the MWR. We were also granted phone privledges. This won't be the case for all the classes though.

Oh yeah and we shoveled a (insert expletive) of snow from late Dec-Jan.

If you have any other questions feel free to ask. It's been two years now but I can still recall most daily activities.

@PhillipC Thanks for taking the time to share your experience. During the week you elected to take leave, were you allowed to travel? Were there any distance restrictions? Thanks!
