I'm an infosec guy who wishes he was a software dev. I went for CW though....

You can get into it for sure, especially since you're already very technical. It's not as restrictive as other engineering fields. But to my understanding (and correct me if I'm wrong) from BUPERS folks, an OR, and officers on the internet and IRL, IWC DCO very strongly prefers infosec/networking people for CW and IP, hence my "wrong career" statement.

yep, total infosec
Thanks sir. I've been getting an idea of what's competitive and desired. Congrats! :)

Huh, I'm curious what the BS with no experience was bringing. Maybe prior enlisted, knew critical languages (eg. Korean, Persian, etc.), or knew the right people?

What's your work experience? Are you an IT security/infosec or networking professional? Do you hold certifications?

The Program Authorization for IP says certain degrees are "strongly preferred but not required." But as we're talking about DCOIC here, they are probably de facto required.

See this, it was posted elsewhere in the forum https://www.dropbox.com/s/0rttbd4nxyn4955/IDC DCO Boards Statistics.xls?dl=0

In FY16 and FY17, it was only 50 and 53 selected, respectively.

I have 20 years of telecom specifically RF experience dealing with cellular networks (Switching, routers, radios, GSM, UMTS, LTE, Microwave) both my undergrad and grad are in business with 4.0 GPA. Prior service Army - radios. Less computers more radios/RF, interference hunting and everything you can think of dealing with RF.

I’m a DCO Recruiter and the results are not posted to the CNRC Portal. Any recruiters out there that have access please send to me at michael.fussle@navy.mil

Shoe-in for IP, not surprising and congrats :)

IPs in the Reserve are severely lacking in RF experience, to no fault of their own because in the Reserve we don't do sh*t with RF. If/when you MOB is the only time you will actively use RF.

If you are in a NCTMS unit, then maybe.

I would take that email with a grain of salt. I just checked the PA, it explicably states an UNDERGRAD cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher. Even if you get a Master's degree, you are still ineligible due to the low GPA.
One of my selections last year had a 2.73 undergrad gpa. His masters was above a 3.4 in cyber security. I’m happy to post the rest of his stats if anyone cares.

Yeah, like bubblehead says, really looks like you're a shoe-in without a doubt. Maybe it's the non-technical degree that screwed you over :( . I'm very sorry to hear about it.

Congrats! I'm curious why you weren't selected for intel given your credentials even if it was your second choice, but it looks like the 6 years as a CTI is a solid qualifier.

He said on page 29 he was not selected. :(

Congratulations. I guess that dispels the myth you need a 2.8 for undergrad.
I was selected for CW as well.
