Reserve EDO DCO

Just found out-Pro Rec Y! Commission Oct 18 lol. Got a year to keep on keepin on.

Welcome to the Navy! Congrats on being selected! Now return to your normal PT schedule and wait again. It'll be some time before you start drilling. I've only done a few drills but I am still excited to be selected as an EDO and be a Naval officer! I hope you'll enjoy it to and I am sure our paths will cross in the future.

Thanks man. I'm used to the hurry up and wait-a concept that has followed me well into cavillian life. I was told I may have to do one more black hole, I mean MEPS run to make sure I stay/am healthy lol. I am not sure I start drilling until after commissioning. But I am very happy I got selected and that I can serve again!

I've been looking around this board for a while now. Really glad this board exists, as I've gleaned a lot of insight from it.

A few weeks ago I found out that I've been selected for an DCO EDO slot. At this point playing the waiting game to get the commissioning date.

Congrats. They told me my date was Oct '18 lol

Probably means October of next year, which is not surprising. I was selected in January and only recently had my commissioning, which had to be pushed back several times.

Been quiet around here for a it. Found out my Commissioning has moved up by 12mo! Was told I would be pinning around Thanksgiving. Now I am trying to figure out how DCO will factor in because I am on the "back 9" of my Masters Courses. Will be done in the Summer. Wonder if they'll let me postpone until Aug-Sept or if I can wiggle my way into a course during my Spring Break. Bazooka_Matt are you drilling out of Jax? sroirrawria, have you commissioned yet? Where will you be drilling?

Well, you've got 12 months to get DCOIC done, so don't feel too rushed. My best gouge to you is the following -

  1. Swear-in
  2. Make a RAPIDS appointment/get a CAC
  3. Get the drill schedule for your NOSC/unit, and make sure you're on their radar for NOSC indoc.
  4. Attend your first drill weekend/NOSC Indoc (Orientation/policies/payroll setup, etc...)
  5. Get with your NOSC/unit N7 to get a DOCIC class date scheduled.
  6. Don't attempt to change units or submit TRUIC/cross-assignment requests until after DCOIC.
Congrats again, on the accelerated time-line

1A. Buy a uniform. Bonus points if you can find Type IIIs.
Don't know how I forgot this one! My RSO found out I had a MIL CAC photo in civilian clothes and gave me 'The Look, and made me go right back to RAPIDS and get an appointment for another CAC.

My #2A would be to take all your dependents with you, if possible.
If I could add a #7 to the list, it would be to get your CAC registered for 24/7 access to the gyms on base. Never know when you'll need get a free workout in.

Long story short, my CAC photo is in civvies. Believe me - I tried to be in khakis. I don’t plan to get a new one until it expires.

Awesome-Sorry it took so long for me to get back-but this a great gouge. Much appreciated. What if I have a civilian CAC? I am going to go on a limb an say I probably need a Navy one too?

Yes. And during your NOSC indoc, you should make sure to tell someone or note it on your paperwork. Some folks have gotten their CAC wires crossed, for lack of a better term, and accidentally had their civ/ctr CAC deactivated. Your DOD ID # stays the same as on your civ CAC, but they just add a letter at the end (digitally) to differentiate between the cards.
