I know someone that was selected last July and went in the first August class. Idk if he was close to aging out though. But if you fail an event you get a second chance to repeat it before rolling unless its the In-PFA. OCS is not hard its a lot of stress. If you can understand that no matter what it's not good enough and you can deal with stress then OCS will not be that bad. OCS is a game and you have to play by their rules.Well I hope they are willing to pick me up and if not then I'm assuming this is when I'll be kissing my officer dreams goodbye. I guess that would be my next question if someone is willing to answer
I'm not an expert, but from my understanding there is no shortage of SNA applicants. Due to that fact, they will not offer any age waivers to anyone who is not prior service.Well I hope they are willing to pick me up and if not then I'm assuming this is when I'll be kissing my officer dreams goodbye. Here's the link for the pay tables, currently an E-5 non-prior with no dependents will make $2181. No BAS, because they'll pay for all your meals there. No BAH, because you're living there with no dependents.Hi all,
I'm trying to prepare everything prior to OCS, and that includes my finances. For those that have recently gone, how much can a single male expect from the first paycheck as an E5 after taxes, and how long after the first Sunday at OCS can we expect the direct deposit?
I greatly appreciate any input.
Thanks so much for the detailed response! I really appreciate it and the information will help me out a lot. Here's the link for the pay tables, currently an E-5 non-prior with no dependents will make $2181. Paychecks come in on the 1st and the 15th (so two payments of $1090.50). If you bank with USAA and have your direct deposit through them, they'll put it in a day or two early since they know it's coming in, they obviously deal with the military all the time.
My statements show that after checking in on the 10th, I was paid my prorated paycheck (the 10th to the 15th) on the 25th of the same month, and then my regular paycheck came in (with the uniform allowance) on the 29th.
And if the 1st or 15th lands on a weekend or holiday, they send them out on the last business day before that.
Luckily, slightly more than a single female......I'm trying to prepare everything prior to OCS, and that includes my finances. For those that have recently gone, how much can a single male expect from the first paycheck as an E5 ...
Before taxes. They take out a flat rate from your base pay for federal taxes (looking back at my LES, it was 7.5% at OCS, but my current one is more like 10% for some reason). Then FICA and Social Security get their cut. All told, it looks like my tax bite at OCS was about 15% of my base pay. Not sure how closely that'll translate to your numbers, but that would imply about $927 bimonthly after taxes, give or take. Thanks so much for the detailed response! Any idea if the $1090.50 is after taxes or before?
Awesome. Again, thanks so much for the info - much appreciated. Before taxes. How likely will Officer Breast Insignias and different Warfares be asked during RLP and other inspections?
Thanks.
