Halstead, I certainly appreciate your enthusiasm - it will serve you well if you are selected to attend OCS. You'll need every bit of it as your DIs descend into your psyche to crush your soul.

Elephant in the room: What were you doing during your 20s and 30s when most people become interested in a military career? Why the sudden course change? Some people who join later in life have difficulty assimilating with their peers who are 10-15 years younger and you're going to be working for people still in their 20s. Have you given any thought to that aspect of Navy life and what strategies you'll employ to overcome those challenges?

Good luck, Halstead. I sincerely mean that... You obviously want it. I'm an IDC applicant too. My application is proboard for the April (now early May) board. I've been working on it for about a year, and have been turned down once for another designator. My recruiter has been awesome, though I try to keep in mind he has several other applicants and make sure I am doing my own homework too. I sought out interviews for my package even though they are not required or suggested for IDC. I was able to interview with two officers in the IDC field. Luckily the interviews went well but more beneficial was the opportunity to talk to them about their jobs, something I couldn't get from my recruiter.

Great questions!!

I grew up in a military house, left home at 15, managed clubs by 23, bought my first house by 23.
Boyfriend hung himself, put myself thru school, worked 7 days a week, moved, had another boyfriend tragically die in the ocean. More work, more school, Was left at the alter in 2007..had another boyfriend get disfigured from a tragic accident, landed a job on base and been trying to get in and get a career

Yes, I'm around it all day, maturity comes in various forms. If we all have a set of rules and common goals we can make it work.
