Corpus T-6 transition

Yeah, A/G too. No use for it in the syllabus though...at least while I was there we weren't even allowed to turn the HUD on.

From the briefs that we got when Whiting was starting the transition, we were told that it was for future capability and the possiblity of pushing more syllabus down in the pipeline and therefore making it less expensive. Where/how you would fit that in is anybody's guess at this point. I don't know if the MPTS gurus have anything in the works, but it could be yet another reason to separate the E2/C2 pipeline back out in the selection process. If you did that, you could possibly have a top-off syllabus for J1/J2 selects, although I can't see how that would make any sense or reduce any flights in the T-45.

I have this sneaky suspicion that what "we were told" was just Beech's excuse to slip the AT-6 stuff into the software while having the Navy pay for it.

T-6 Topoff program is getting off the ground. Selected the first students at the beginning of the corner. They're going to track half the selectees doing 5 extra flights in the T-6 vs 5 events in the T-45, and prove there is no degradation of quality of product then add more to the program in 5 flight increments until they have a decent portion of the T-45 intermediate program being done in the T-6 for cheaper.

A friend of mine just classed up for advanced and he said his 43 was the lowest of his class and most of the guys in there had scored out of primary in the mid 50's. A Helo draft is occurring here and there because everyone's going Maritime or jets.

As far as the T-6 transition, VT-27 has had their first student class start form flights in the T-6. It was only like a dozen. A new class just started ground school. VT-28 starts their transition next year after all over 27 is completely transitioned. They still have several IP's in FITU.
Interesting that this post was used as a reference on VT-28’s Wikipedia page.

I'm jumping on the thread resurection :)

Are the VT's flying with students using the HUD from day 1? The USAF makes a big deal of using the HUD as primary flight instrument in UPT with T-6A... culture difference?

The T-6A doesn’t have a HUD unless there’s some major mod I’m not aware of that’s recently come out.

In the bravo students are only introduced to the HUD at the end of contacts during one flight, otherwise students aren't supposed to be using it during syllabus events.

T-6B studs use the HUD (if it’s working) during Aero. It used to be intro only, but the new syllabus has it for every flight. In general it’s a different scan and they have a hard enough time with the regular scan. Kinda cool to see what tacair gets to play with, but impractical.

Haven't seen a USAF A with one yet but then I haven't seen an A out in the wild/parked on a ramp in a month or two.

Good gouge- the T-6B red gear kit (intake plug, etc.) comes with a protective cloth cover for the HUD, but the purple bag from a handle of Crown Royal also fits.

I should have said - T-38! Indeed no HUD in T-6A - my bad!

Speaking of Crown Royal and intake plugs... if you’re starting up at Boca Chica for a return from a weekend cross country, the aircraft will abort the start if the plug gets sucked straight down the intake making for an awkward walk around the aircraft to redo a preflight.

However, if the plug twists sideways during start and gets sucked down the intake that you’ll have no indication of anything abnormal until somebody notices it on the post flight walk inspection.

I’ve seen more than one person surprised by each.

The ECS plug flies out when the prop comes out of feather too. Or so I’ve heard.

I've seen a lot of HAZREPs regarding the baggage door, too. Something about coming back and the helmet bags are missing...
