Navy Pilot/ NFO "Rolling" Boards MAR/APR 2013

Well Petty Officer advancements were released today....maybe the rest of us could get some good news too? :P lol

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Happy Memorial Day weekend to you all. Let us never forget as we venture on the journey towards becoming US Naval Officers the ultimate sacrifice of those who have gone before us to defend freedom and democracy across the world.

I salute those who serve, who have served, and will be serving as we all are brothers in arms. Enjoy the weekend, and stay safe.

Agreed, it's just the final select purgatory jitters, that's all lol. My background check probably won't come in until another month from now.

You dont need the whole BI done. I believe that it just needs to be open. You arent going to get a clearance during OCS.

Got a call for an investigation interview tomorrow.... hopefully it will end soon!!

The ONLY concern I have, from now until I have an FS letter in hand, is them coming back and saying that they had selected too many, and I get dropped. To me, it really seems like there are an awful lot of pilots/NFOs getting selected right now, especially when I see the number of graduates leaving from the Naval Academy, plus adding in to the fact of people leaving ROTC at their respective universities. Can anyone please elaborate on the high volume of selectees right now? Don't get me wrong, I love that I was selected, but I don't understand why there are an incredible amount of people in the pipeline.

Thanks for the clarification!

I believe the majority were for FY 13. There hasn't been any news about them canceling then July board cause of numbers.

More and more flying gigs are opening up in the civilian world as a large number of commercial pilots are hitting the 65 year old cutoff. Because of this, many current aviators are leaving to fill those spots. Also, not everyone that starts off as a SNA/SNFO select will make it through training. Many SNA/SNFO are being re-designated at OCS due to issues with NAMI. More reasons probably exist but that's a few.

^^^^ 100% agree. The physical is WAY MORE in depth at OCS. You have to remember they over select to meet their goals as both SNA's and SNFO's also attrite during flight school.
