GoPro and other cams in flight

I have a GoPro w/ the suction mount. It rocks. Looking to go the Contour route for a helmet cam. How are you guys mounting these things to your helmets? Someone mentioned velcro, but I don't want to FOD out the cockpit during a cat/trap or BFM engagement...

I got a NRFI NVG Mount from flight E, and turned it into a helmet mount for my GoPro. All I had to do was unscrew 4 screws, the entire adjustment block came off and then I used the curved adhesive mount. Flight E actually gave me two, so if you PM me your address I'll send you the other one.

The down side is that you don't have anything worth filming.

Smiles and shit.

*Full disclosure: I'll stipulate that it's cooler than what you would witness in a C-12.

Go Pro actually makes an NVG helmet mount for their cameras now. Saw a stack at the Exchange the other day.

If it's the one that I've seen on their website - that's for the ground side NVG mount. Doesn't work with the ones on our helmets. If it's different than the one on the website, then that's pretty sweet!

Apropos of nothing whatsoever...and assuming it survived the crash, loss of control, mid-air and/or water entry, I, as either a Senior Member of the MIB or a dude on the FNAEB...can image nothing more compelling that the "GoPro" recording of the flight. YMMV. Just my $.02.

As a dude who is an ASO and has sat on an AMB (MIB doesn't exist anymore) before, I'd want to see the footage - but if you're suggesting it would be brought up as a causal factor? It might be - but it would likely be rejected.

More than likely the causal factor will be that one member of the crew drank alcohol at some point in his life.

Our mileage varies...clearly. Not causal....but perhaps...revealing/expository. Can't comment on the "rejected" aspect until I actually saw it. Might make all the difference.

Got to say, I understand where you are coming from, but I was thrilled to find out my mishap was caught on camera. Saved me a whole lot of hassle.

There are both "good and others" in this business...happy to hear you were on the good side...

Or blew a .00001 the day before the mishap.
So...no trust at all that [fill in the blank] will try to "do the right thing"?

I'm truly sorry if that's what you all feel you're being exposed to. That's not right. The "fairest" board I ever stood before was the one investigating my own mishap. My pilot and I were both back in the cockpit 48 hours later. "Carrying on!"
