You have never been to NSAWC have you?
Surely you jest. Why don't they issue them to the squadrons when their ADVON shows up and they can keep them in their RR safes, then hold training there? This is not rocket science, it's either lack of creative thinking or laziness.

Well, that's where that stuff is being used. When you're faced with the possibility of operating in a large range of KBs with TICs going down in unbriefed areas, having a source of electronic GRGs is pretty useful.

Or three NFO's with laptops, a head, a burrito in the oven and a rack...but I digress...or regress.

New post for the iPad thing-

A bunch of Studs were using them here in Krock for a while in lieu of paper approach plates. After about a month the powers that be said that it gives an unfair advantage to those who can't afford an 800 dollar iPad and said we can't use them.

I am inbound to jet advanced. I've heard that you don't get issued pubs, that it is all on the CNATRA website and that is where you are expected to get them from. Truth?

If it is, is an iPad the best way to go for studying?

You won't be issued a NATOPS, but you will get everything else.

I cant vouch for Jet Advanced, but I used mine a lot in primary and helo advanced (so far). All the current pubs and NATOPS (along with 3710 and FAR/AIM) can be found online and 'PDF Search' is money when it comes to finding those little nuggets of info tucked away in some weird section. There are also some really great aviation apps for the IPAD. Fltplan.com app for example is really good.

FWIW, if you're considering getting one, I'd get at least the 32GB model with 3/4G wifi. Also, they can be had off of craigslist for 100-200 off. Especially the GEN 1 models.

FWIW, RUMORINT says new iPads are being announced next week. Might want to hold off a little bit longer.

I can't speak for Kingsville, but in Meridian, the only thing we are issued is a PCL. No NATOPS, FTIs, Lecture guides, etc. They're all available in common spaces in the squadron/sim building, but otherwise you have to use the CNATRA website. It really blows in my opinion.

That's retarded.

"know this cold, but we can't be bothered to issue you one. oh, by the way, we aren't fitting you with G-suits anymore either...hope you learned to sew in primary."

We get issued everything in Kingsville except the big blue NATOPS. FTIs, SOPs, lecture guides, in flight guide, etc...

They do give us in-flight guides and SOPs, actually. The local UPS store seems to have done quite well selling copies of the NATOPS, test gouge, etc. No FTIs is such a pain in the ass also.
