Low NSS's get boarded

A rumor has been going around that people with low NSS will get boarded upon completion of primary and kicked out the Navy. I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on this subject.

Maybe stop listening to rumors, that's a good first step. Oh yeah, my signature is pretty good advice, too....which is sort of a catch-22 if you're going to heed the advice of my first sentence, but I digress.

If it is happening, it would probably be for those with below a 35 NSS. Don't be there and its a non-issue.

Before I winged, I had heard plenty of rumors about how the projected cuts were going to affect the VT's. Haven't heard of any of them actually reaching fruition, but I guess it wouldn't surprise me if this became reality at some point in the near-ish future. All those FY09/10 guys should be hitting primary soon if not already.

Every once in a while a chain of command impliments a "35 and fly" program. If your NSS is above a 35 you shouldnt have to worry. Currently there is no extra effort to attrite students for manning etc like they've been doing in API. Part of the reason the cut is so deep there is to avoid having to make cuts later on in the pipeline.

$$$$$$$ it costs a lot more of it to can someone AFTER they've completed primary. That's not saying that one should make coasting by plan A, that's never a good plan. I suspect that the measures being taken at API are an effort to refine the process so that if the Navy needs X pilots, it sends X pilots to primary. Reasonable man theory says you probably ought to send X+Y, knowing you'll can Y and still be left with the best people to fill the requirement.

That's probably the biggest reason why we've seen poorer performances in Adv and the FRS. Also why its become so damned difficult to get rid of someone the further they get along in the pipeline, no matter how badly it should happen.

If the rumor is true it would be a great thing, cause there are some rocks here in advanced that shouldn't have made it out of primary.

CNATRA has stated that training squadrons can attrite for NSS less than 35. Like Zippy said, stay above 35 and it wont be an issue. If you are below a 35, standby for an FPC and possible attrition.

Having flashbacks of the great Total Systems/Old sim guy integration thingy from meridian a few years back... phase 1 studs multi marginal, many boards...

35 is pretty stinking low. Marines wouldn't wing a dude with less than 35 during my tenure... Think the Navy clowns who did wing below 35 had some politics on their side.... (DADDY! EO! etc.....) vomit.

It may be low, but I know there were at least two or three people my winging class that were boarded for being below 35 on the NSS.

Back in early 07 when I began flying as an IP with VT-6, the wing had just done away with the lower than 35 NSS means no wings. I met two stash Ensigns who had completed the program but their overall NSS was less than 35 so they were not winged. The wing started to look at those below 35 NSS folks on a case to case basis. Some guys made it, others did not but it had nothing to do with an outside source as far as I know. This was for the HT bubba's obviously. Student Control and I were buddies so I got to here some of the stories.

below 35 happens more than you think....

Three people were boarded in the winging class before mine for having below a 35 NSS. Two of those did primary in Vance AFB, OK...where they fail you like its cool around there. Most of the people who go for review get a fair shake. I have seen someone go for a board that had a 29 NSS and had no failures, as soon as they saw he had no failures it was a non-issue. Others (like the vance dudes) were for total failures(I believe). Try to keep your nose clean and you will have nothing to worry about, in the end that is the only thing you can do, all else is out of your control....welcome to CNATRA.
