Another Big Day

Almost three years ago I posted a thread titled "A Big Day", reporting that I had just pinned my original wings on my daughter.

A few days ago I was honored to pin those same, 40 year old wings on my son. Needless to say, I am obnoxiously, disgustingly proud. One Navy and one Marine Naval Aviator.

My old squadron mate (and still best friend) just beat cancer, my dog likes me more than he likes my wife, and my wife doesn't especially like either of us very much. Neither the dog nor I really give a damn. Life is good.

I'm putting those old wings away for perhaps another generation.

I cannot top that but I still am tremendously and obnoxiously proud. Yesterday, at a ceremony at VP-30 in Jacksonville, I pinned my NFO wings (received Dec. 10, 1971), on my son. He will be in EP-3's at VQ-1, NAS Whidbey Island. My wife and I are excited that he will be back in the great State of Washington.

To steal a bit of thunder from the thread, evening last, this old, crusty Master Chief got to see his son graduate with Class 137, Test Pilot School. Rhinos.

That said, neither the dog nor the wife like me very much.

Life is great.

Took this little fella, at the age of four, out to the LSO platform at NAS Lemoore to watch my Squadron (VA-146) do night MLP prior to our '67 combat cruise. Must have "caught the bug"! Not a Pilot (ColorVision), but a NavAir AEDO on the Hornet SLEP program and a member of AW.

Congratulations to you, your daughter & son. A rare honor for all of you. Naval Aviator w/ son & daughter Naval Aviators? Might be a record, folks!
 
Hoping to top this, but my Master Plan still needs at least 4-6 years to come to fruition:

Father - Naval Aviator (Spads / A-4s), 32 years Active Duty, retired Captain.
Father-in-law - Marine Infantry, 28 years Active Duty, retired Colonel.
Wife - Naval Aviator (EC-130, TC-4C), 8 Active, 14 Reserve, retired Commander.
Brother-in-law - Marine Infantry, 26 years so far, Colonel.
Self - Naval Flight Officer (A-6), 13 Active, 13 Reserve so far, Captain.
Son - will start junior year @ Vanderbilt NROTC this fall.
Daughter - will start freshman year @ Vanderbilt NROTC this fall.

Proudest moments (to date) - presenting each of them w/ their NROTC scholarships, and giving them a dog tag from each of us symbolizing over 130 years of naval service.
