Everything is finally in and I am just waiting on COMDOCS. Has anyone been preparing for the survival swim test? They won't let me attempt it at the YMCA where I go, I guess inflating pants in a pool is too dangerous.

Congrats as well!

Once you make scroll, you should get a Final Select Letter a few weeks later, after the letter you'll get your COMDOCS (letter states you should receive COMDOCS within 10 days).

If you're like me and applied more then a year ago, some of your paperwork may need to be updated. As such, one thing that could slow down making scroll and COMDOCS is having an out-of-date SF86 or needing some clarification on Med stuff. Often times recruiters at slow at responding, so I would urge you to keep on them and to even talk to your local processor. I found out that my paperwork was held up because my SF86 signature was too old!!! That has delayed me a few weeks! Recruiter knew nothing about this, and I had to work with processor to resolve the issue.

If you are interested in finding out more info there is a US Navy DCO Facebook page. I know that one of the PAO guys just wrote a wonderful write-up detailing his experience at DCOIC.

Best of luck with your long blue wait.

Final Select, Scroll and COMDOCs

Anyone from the January or February boards receive their Final Select letters or COMDOCS yet?

I heard "it takes an average of 143 days from the date they prorec yes to date of commissioning".

That's a pretty specific number. Not sure where that came from, but who knows.

Some of the other people who were picked up as PAOs with me at the last PAO board just heard that the scrolls were approved and are now waiting on the final signature.

Update: I, along with at least two other people who were picked up on the recent Reserve PAO boards, have been notified that my name was on the most recent approved scroll and that it is now just waiting for a signature.

According to my recruiter, "It's just a matter of time until the COMDOCs come."

Commissioned today

Woo-hoo... I commissioned today! I'm so excited. I will start drilling in either July or August depending on how quickly they can get my papers processed.

So if anyone has any questions about my process, please feel free to ask me. The general time frame went as follows:

26SEP08- Contacted Navy Officer Recruiter
Early DEC- Did my officer interviews
Mid DEC- Board moved up by 2 weeks
19DEC08- Sent in my package
15JAN09- Board met
16JAN09- Informed of my pro-rec
02FEB09- Board re-meets because it screwed up too many people's packages by upping the board so quickly. More are pro-rec'd and find out a week or so later.
06FEB09- Went to MEPS
Late FEB- Told BUPERS needed more documentation for my eyes. Was told a week after they received it I was cleared medically.
18MAY09- Scrolls are approved
29MAY09- COMDOCS are ready
03JUN09- Recruiter receives COMDOCs
05JUN09- Commissioned
JUL09/AUG09- Anticipated first drill

I will have a commissioning ceremony later this month (I work at an aviation history museum and they want to do something big). We are going to make it a Navy Day and have the local recruiters bring in their DEPpers to re-swear in (parents love this because they don't get to see their sons/daughters swear in at MEPS). My husband was a recruiter until a few months ago, so I know all the local enlisted recruiters and Chiefs.

Hang in there everyone... it's a long ride (and my was quite short comparitively) but it's worth it!
